The daughter of slain underworld figure Carl Williams has been spared conviction after she was found guilty of using her phone while driving.
Dhakota Williams, 21, failed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face a single charge of using a handheld mobile phone while driving after she was nabbed by police in her black BMW last year.
Judicial registrar Barry Johnston said he was happy for the matter to proceed despite Ms Williams’ absence.
“In April there was an appearance by the accused so she obviously knew about the matter,” he said.
Mr Johnston said he was satisfied the charge against Ms Williams was proved, noting the “epidemic” proportion of mobile phone offences across Victoria.
“Obviously there are good reasons why drivers in general should not be using a mobile phone whilst driving or in a motor vehicle that’s not parked,” he said.
“In this case, it’s a provisional driver’s license which means they’re still learning in relation to the driving of a motor vehicle.”
Ms Williams, who was just 10-years-old when her drug trafficker father was beaten to death by another inmate with part of an exercise bike, was pulled over while driving down Alexandra Ave in August last year.
Police alleged she had her phone in her lap and was using Google maps at the time.
Ms Williams, who boasts more than 38,000 followers on social media, had previously sought the matter be adjourned while she waited for more paperwork.
Mr Johnston noted Ms Williams did not have relevant prior driving convictions aside from a parking fine in 2021.
He fined her $580 without conviction.
