Resident’s night of terror as police probe links between wild house party, carjacking, CBD brawls

Neighbours have relived the moment gunshots from a wild house party rang out in their street, as investigations into a violent crime spree continue.

Man killed, two fighting for life after wild Melbourne CBD brawls

Gunshots were heard as brawling youths spilt from a sweet 16th birthday party on to a Dandenong North road just an hour before a violent carjacking nearby.

Police are investigating possible links between the out-of-control Suffolk Rd house party and violence across Melbourne on Saturday night.

Investigators said they were called to “reports of a group of youths fighting” about 9pm, but said the brawling crowd had dispersed by the time police arrived.

Neighbours reported seeing some partygoers with knives and poles, while others were observed as heavily intoxicated upon leaving the home.

Frightened Suffolk Rd residents, who wished to remain nameless, said they heard “two gunshots fired into the air” before police arrived.

Police continue to investigate possible links between the house party, the carjacking and two stabbings in the CBD which left one man dead, two fighting for life and another also in hospital.

Their investigation is continuing and no charges have been laid over the man’s murder.

A teenager charged over the carjacking – which occurred at a Stud Rd service station and left a motorist with stab wounds – was on bail at the time of the attack.

The boy, 17, faces seven charges over the alleged car theft including committing an aggravated carjacking while on bail, unlawful assault with a knife, intentionally causing injury and stealing a Porsche Cayenne Wagon.

He appeared before a children’s court for a short hearing on Monday when he was beamed in through a video link from a youth justice centre.

The court was told his lawyers would apply for bail next month.

The magistrate told the boy he would remain in youth detention for the next few weeks and come before the court in person to seek bail.

“Because the charges are so serious, it takes time for an application for bail to be prepared,” the magistrate said.

Another boy, 15, also charged over the alleged carjacking will appear at a children’s court this month.

A third teenager was also charged on Friday afternoon in relation to the incident.

The 17-year-old from northwest Victoria was charged with aggravated carjacking, intentionally and recklessly causing injury and an offence while out on bail.

He has been remanded and will face children’s court at a later date.

As her father continues to recover from his wounds, the daughter of the victim took to Facebook to describe the alleged attackers as “mutts”.

Her mother and brother were also in the vehicle at the time of the carjacking.

“Dogs, mate,” the victim’s daughter said of the alleged attack. “F--- you, mutts. Youse (sic) wanna take the car and put knifes (sic) to them. You dogs are f---ed.”

The man remains in a stable condition at The Alfred hospital.

His Porsche was recovered at 3am on Sunday in Bourke St.
