Footage shows a driver running over a man in an alleged road rage attack

A 45-year-old man suffered two broken legs in a horror incident where he was run over by a car before his alleged attacker hurled abuse at him.

Disturbing CCTV footage has captured the moment a father was run down and left for dead by the side of the road in an alleged road rage attack in Melbourne’s southeast.

Footage of the alleged hit-run, which took place along Frankston Gardens Drive, Carrum Downs, about 12.30pm on Wednesday, shows the male driver of a white wagon pull over to the side of the road before exiting his car.

Seconds later the driver of a grey Ford Ranger – following closely behind him – slams into him, bowling him over, before swerving onto the opposite side of the road and driving away.

The victim, a 45-year-old dad from Tyabb, can be seen lying on the ground screaming in pain.

Witness Grant Johnstone told 7 News he found the victim bleeding from the head and legs before calling for help.

“As the guy drove off I noticed that someone had been hit by a car,” he said.

“He was in a bad way. He had blood coming out of his head.”

Witnesses said they couldn’t believe their eyes when the alleged attacker returned to hurl abuse at the critically injured man, accusing him of being in the wrong.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics were called to an incident in Carrum Downs about 12.40pm.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said: “It’s alleged a grey Ford Ranger collided with the man.

“A 45-year-old Tyabb man was taken to hospital with life-threatening-injuries.”

He was rushed to The Alfred with two broken legs and head injuries where he underwent surgery.

He remains in a stable condition in hospital.

A 40-year-old Edithvale man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, recklessly causing injury and intentionally causing injury.

He has been bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrate’s Court on October 18.
