Two men have fronted court after police allegedly uncovered a stash of drugs worth more than $1m in Melbourne’s east.

Detectives from the Viper taskforce descended on a storage unit and a house in Box Hill on Tuesday morning where they allegedly seized commercial quantities of methylamphetamine and ketamine.

It is alleged they also seized large quantities of cocaine and heroin, with the entire cache of drugs estimated to have a street value of more than $1m.

A small amount of 1,4-Butanediol was also allegedly discovered during the joint raid carried out with help from the Major Drug Squad, Box Hill Divisional Response Unit and the Dog Squad.

Boon Lye and Tan Kwong, from Box Hill, faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for a filing hearing after they were charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of drugs of dependence.

The men, both aged in their 30s, did not apply for bail.

The duo were remanded in custody and will return to court on July 11.

Det Insp Craig Darlow from the Viper taskforce said the force will not give up on targeting organised crime and working to target drug traffickers.

“Victoria Police and Viper taskforce relentlessly disrupt and target drug traffickers because illicit drugs make our communities and our roads less safe,” he said.

“We are sending a strong and clear message today to organised crime. We will not stop. We are coming after you.

“Any perception that drug trafficking leads to fast or easy money could not be further from the truth – there is nothing easy about serving decades of your life in prison.

“This is a warning that regardless of where you are or how you operate, we will target those involved in the manufacture and trafficking of illicit drugs and hold them to account.”

The Viper taskforce was set up in July last year in a bid to take down organised crime networks, street gangs and outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Anyone with information about organised crime or illegal drugs should call Crime Stoppers.
