A man’s body has been found in a creek in Melbourne’s north but his identity remains a mystery.
The grim discovery was made at Merri Creek, near Moreland Rd, about 2.30pm on Friday.
Police say they have been unable to identify the man and officers are keen to speak with anyone who might have been in the area at the time.
The man was last seen wearing a light-coloured shirt, black shorts and black runners.
One passer-by took to social media to describe what they had seen.
“There was a body under a tarp near the footpath when I passed. Very upsetting,” one user said.
Merri Creek has previously been the site of many sexual assaults, including a rape in 2019 when a man subjected a woman to hours of sexual abuse and attempted to drown her. He was later jailed for 20 years.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
