A bikie boss charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences broke strict bail conditions by mingling with OMCG associates, breaking curfew and attending licensed premises, a court has heard.

Nomads chapter president Daniel Jayasekera, 32, faced the Ballarat Magistrates’ court after police executed a Firearm Prohibition Order search at his Lake Wendouree home on Friday.

The court heard the Viper taskforce allegedly seized 26g of cocaine, scales, deal bags, a pair of knuckle dusters and two knives.

Detectives also observed coffee mugs emblazoned with the Nazi Swastika at his home, the court heard.

Mr Jayasekera was charged with possess traffickable quantity drug of dependence, three counts of possess prohibited weapon and breach of bail.

In arguing against his application for bail, Detective Senior Constable Michelle Cosgrave said the father-of-four was an “extreme and unacceptable risk” to the community.

She told the court the Ballarat man had broken bail conditions including his strict curfew, attending licensed premises and associating with members of the Nomads OMCG.

She said the Australian Federal Police had photographed Mr Jayasekera with “numerous” bikies at both Melbourne and Gold Coast airports in recent months.

“Time and time again, I don’t think he is really caring about any conditions police are imposing on him,” Sen-Con Cosgrave said.

She said police believed the accused would “continue to traffick cocaine” if granted bail.

“I would question his means to making money,” Sen-Con Cosgrave said.

“His finances are quite low, he’s only obtained a job four days ago... I believe he will continue to traffick cocaine.”

His lawyer Andrew Papadimitropoulos successfully applied for bail.

“He’s not out there running amok,” Mr Papadimitropoulos said.

“Contrary to the image, he is a family man.

“He has been dedicated to his family and young child.”

He said his client was a primary carer for his partner after undergoing spinal surgery as well as their six-month old child.

Mr Papadimitropoulos argued there was “little evidence” to support the trafficking charge citing a lack of corroborating evidence.

“It’s not a slam dunk case,” he said.

The Magistrate granted bail saying it was a “very difficult decision” to make.

Mr Jayasekera will have to report daily to police, is unable to leave Victoria and will next face court on January 23.

He has also been banned from attending a Nomad club run being held in Ballarat on Saturday.
