Wheels driven off stolen Porsche in Melbourne

Police chopper video has shown how sparks flew and wheels fell off as a group of teens with a bailed 16-year-old at the wheel drove through suburban Melbourne in a stolen SUV.

The stolen Porsche Cayenne was spotted by the Air Wing rocketing erratically along the Monash Freeway at 240km/h at about 4.20am on Monday.

It was tracked to Huntingfield Rd in Toorak where police used stop sticks to deflate its tyres at 5am.

Those on board continued to pilot the Porsche on its rims, the footage showing sparks shooting from it and wheels coming off.

It eventually stopped in Queens Ave, Caulfield East, where police — including members of Operation Trinity — arrested six teenagers.

Victoria Police has been specifically targeting burglars and car thieves each night since March 2023 using Trinity, an overnight operation across Melbourne which is the force’s most heavily resourced frontline commitment.

“On top of standard patrols, there are another 70 police including members of the Dog Squad, Public Order Response and Air Wing, specifically tasked with preventing and responding to burglaries and car thefts each night,” a Victoria Police statement said.

“As a result of this intense focus, police arrested 673 burglars and car thieves almost 1,550 times over the past year.

“A further 7350 people have been processed for other offences detected by police working nightshift across the Trinity area of operations.”

The force says its latest intelligence shows that up to 80 per cent of aggravated burglaries in the worst hotspots are carried out through unlocked doors and windows.

Attempts are usually unsuccessful when the offender finds a property is locked.

“As such, police implore the community to take simple steps such as locking all doors and windows on your home and car. The data tells us that if you lock your doors, your chances of falling victim dramatically decrease,” the statement said.
