Notorious western suburbs figure Fadi Haddara has been charged with gun offences after an operation by anti-illicit tobacco detectives.

Investigators from the Lunar taskforce arrested Haddara, 45, of Altona North, on Friday.

He has since been charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of firearms, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, affray and handling stolen goods.

Haddara was also charged with possessing firearms in contravention of a firearms prohibition order.

Police allegedly found three handguns and a homemade rifle at a property adjacent to where Haddara was living at the time on September 13 last year.

“The second incident occurred on 29th November, 2022 where the man was involved in an affray with a 40-year-old man who owned a tobacco store in the Altona North Area,” the statement said.

“During the affray, it’s believed a firearm was discharged by the 40-year-old man. No one was injured during the incident.

The guns allegedly seized last September have been forensically tested.

Lunar was set up earlier this year after about 30 arson attacks allegedly linked to crime syndicates fighting over the illicit tobacco trade.

There have also been non-fatal shootings related to that friction.

Haddara was one of three people arrested in the Friday operation.

A Delahey man, 41, and an Altona Meadows man, 49, were also questioned by investigators.

The Altona Meadows man was picked up on a VIPER taskforce warrant after allegedly failing to appear in court on a range of drug matters.

He charged with failing to appear on bail and pleaded guilty at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

The Delahey man was intercepted in a car at Colac in August and GHB was allegedly found on board. He interviewed for drug possession and released pending further inquiries.

Haddara was bailed in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to reappear on January 17.
