Anab Mohamud requests leave from her duties as Yarra City councillor

A councillor accused of bashing a woman in a savage nightclub attack has requested leave from her duties.

An inner-city Greens Councillor has requested leave from her duties after she was charged over a fight outside a Prahran nightclub.

Yarra City councillor, Anab Mohamud, 35, said she would request medical leave without pay based on doctor’s advice after she sustained “serious physical and emotional injuries” from the altercation.

In a social media post, Cr Mohamud said it had been “incredibly frustrating” not being able to tell her side of the story due to legal proceedings.

“While I trust that the truth will come out through the coming months, I know that many people have been hurt by the allegations made about me. Please don’t believe all of what you might have read online,” the statement said.

“I look forward to recovering to full health, clearing my name and continuing to represent the Yarra community.”

The councillor faces charges including assault, offensive behaviour and public drunkenness following a confrontation with another woman near Chasers nightclub in April.

She is due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 5.

The other woman, aged 29, was also charged and is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 20.
