The director of a Melbourne tutoring academy has been slapped with more than a dozen new sexual offences.
The bombshell update in the criminal case against AIMS High Academy director Madira Ginnige was aired in the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Mr Ginnige, 56, was charged in July with two counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 16 at the academy’s Mt Waverley education centre.
The court heard detectives from the Box Hill sexual offences and child abuse team have since charged him with an additional 15 offences.
The Herald Sun has been told the additional charges are sexual in nature.
Dressed in a black puffer, trousers and a disposable mask, Mr Ginninge attended court with a lawyer and male supporter.
His lawyer told the court the mathematics tutor “denies the offending” related to the original alleged child victim.
No details of the allegations were aired in court, which dealt only with a venue change for the case.
Mr Ginnige’s bail was extended to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court next Thursday.
The AIMS High Academy website was deactivated after the Herald Sun revealed the sexual assault charges laid against its director.
Before then, the website boasted of Mr Ginnige’s industry success.
Mr Ginnige worked as a high school mathematics tutor for more than 15 years.
The academy linked itself to students at Melbourne High School, MacRobertson Girls High School and Nossal High School.
“Since its founding, AIMS High Academy has been one of the most trusted names in the industry all headed by the director Madira Ginnige. Our results are unmatched,” the website stated.
