Police allege the child was being tutored by Mr Ginnige, 56, at the academy’s Mount Waverley education centre when the assaults took place.

Mr Ginnige was arrested at his Mount Waverley home.

The tutor is currently on bail, due to front the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on September 13.

The AIMS High Academy boasts its ability to train up students for eligibility to top selective entry schools such as Melbourne High School, MacRobertson Girls High School and Nossal High School.

The academy’s website describes Mr Ginnige as a passionate maths tutor with over 15 years’ experience educating students in year 7 to VCE.

“I am a teacher who supports my students every step of the way, whether it be spending extra time in the classroom solidifying concepts or integrating maths into real and engaging applications,” Mr Ginnige wrote on the website.

“At the centre of who I am is an enigmatic friend who is always at hand to help, providing one one-on-one help as well as scheduling intensive workshops for my students.”

Mr Ginnige offers tutoring for VCE Mathematical Methods and VCE Specialist Maths.

“Since its founding, AIMS High Academy has been one of the most trusted names in the industry all headed by the director Madira Ginnige. Our results are unmatched,” the website states.

The academy also offers English tutoring led by another educator, with a second education centre located in Narre Warren.

Mr Ginnige, who is highly involved in Melbourne’s Sri Lankan community, regularly posts images and videos of his students on his public Instagram and Facebook page.

In one photo, he posed in a classroom with male and female students at his side with the caption “these beautiful kids had (a) photo with me”.

A separate video showed him hosting a free pizza party for year 8 students.
