A man has been charged over the shooting death of pregnant Shepparton woman Kiara Ferguson.

Adam Winmar, 29, was charged by homicide squad detectives investigating the April, 2023, tragedy.

Mr Winmar has been charged with negligent homicide and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Ms Ferguson, 27, died at the scene after being shot in the face at the couple’s McCubbin Drive property.

The Herald Sun revealed in December that Mr Winmar could face a more serious charge.

He had faced a summary jurisdiction application in the Koori Court section of Shepparton Magistrates’ Court.

He was charged with a firearms possession offence over the pipe gun fatality.

The court heard Mr Winmar had told police Ms Ferguson found the gun and approached him as he sat on the toilet.

He said the mother of two approached him and said: “What have I told you about this?”.

Ms Ferguson then threw the gun and it “accidentally” discharged, firing the fatal shot, Mr Winmar said.
