‘It’s shocking’: Abducted Glen Eira student lashes bail revolving door

A teen on bail for his alleged involvement in the shocking attack on a schoolboy has again been arrested after a police car was rammed in Melbourne’s southeast.

It’s understood the 15-year-old was in a stolen car with three other teens when the vehicle hit an unmarked police car around 10am on Thursday in Cheltenham.

It’s understood the boy was on bail at the time of the recent incident.

7News reported he had been bailed eight times in recent weeks, but continued to reoffend.

It’s understood the boy was on bail for the terrifying attack on schoolboy Benjamin Phikhohpoom, also 15, last year.

Benjamin was walking home from school in Glen Eira when he was allegedly pulled into a car, by three offenders, stabbed and then dragged 150m, before being run over when he was hurled from the moving vehicle.

Benjamin was in an induced coma for six days and spent a number of weeks in the Royal Children’s Hospital.

After the attack Benjamin’s father, Kirati, expressed shock that teenagers were allegedly behind the brutal attack.

“It’s really sad what happened … we haven’t slept for days,” he told the Herald Sun.

“I can’t believe this has happened. (My son is) a really good kid (that is) really smart.”

The 15-year-old alleged offender is still set to face the Children’s Court in relation to that incident.

He was bailed on April 2 after proceedings were delayed.

On Thursday, police spotted a white SUV – which had been taken from outside a gym moments earlier – driving erratically.

A police statement staid: “Police spotted an allegedly stolen car parked on Farm Road in Cheltenham about 10am. The car allegedly rammed into a police vehicle, then fled the scene.

“It was followed to Langwarrin, where the four occupants dumped the car on Ravell Mews.”

Police arrested four youths nearby including the 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl.

No charges have yet been laid.
