Former homicide detective Gary Jubelin signs new book, podcast deal about his life as a cop
Some of Australia’s most high-profile murder investigations will feature in ex-NSW homicide detective Gary Jubelin’s new book and podcast series.

One of Australia’s high profile homicide detectives, Gary Jubelin, is set to publish his memoirs in a book and broadcast deal signed with publisher HarperCollins and News Corp.
The book will be written by Jubelin with award-winning journalist Dan Box and will cover his life and career from a rebellious kid, inspired to join to the police after witnessing a police chase, to his rookie days and his first homicide case.
Jubelin who has had a 34-year career in policing, led some of the nation’s most intriguing murder investigations including the murders of Terry Falconer, whose body was found chopped into pieces and dumped in the Hastings River in 2001 — an investigation which inspired the TV series Underbelly: Badness.
Jubelin also investigated the serial killing of three children in Bowraville and the high-profile disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell from his Central Coast home. He ran the crime scene following the Lindt cafe siege, investigated the death of Sydney model Caroline Byrne and recovered the body of Matthew Leveson who had been missing since last seen leaving a nightclub in Darlinghurst years earlier.
“I hope the book will give an insight into the life of a homicide investigator, the price that you pay and what each investigation takes out of you,” said Jubelin.
Jubelin retired from the NSW Police earlier this year.
He will defend charges he illegally recorded conversations with a person linked to the Tyrrell case at a trial set for early next year.
“It’s frustrating waiting for the allegations against me to be resolved, but I as I have maintained from the outset, I have done nothing wrong and will put my faith in the courts,” he said.
“Personally, my only regret is not being able to support the victims of investigations I was working on at the time of my retirement, but I am confident there are many dedicated police who will take up that role.”

The book will be released in the second half of next year.
He has also signed a deal with News Corp Australia to do a six-part podcast and series of news projects over the next 12 months.
Jubelin was approached by multiple television networks, publishers and production companies to work with him. His decision came down to two parties, Nine Entertainment Co and News Corp. Although Nine’s 60 Minutes approached and tabled a significant offer to join them as an investigative reporter in 2020, Jubelin chose to sign up with News Corp.
“I have carefully considered a wide range of employment options put to me post police. I have chosen to work in the media. The media play an important role in open justice, this is something I have been a strong advocate for, throughout my policing career,” he said.
