AUSTRALIA’S ISLAMIC STATE FIGHTERS
Neil Prakash (Victoria)
Notorious Islamic State recruiter. Released from jail in Turkey in early 2022 and placed in immigration detention. Remains in legal limbo after the Australian government revoked his citizenship.
Khaled Sharrouf (NSW)
Posted a photo of his young son holding the severed head of a Syrian soldier. Believed to have been killed in an air strike in 2017.
Mohamed Elomar (NSW)
Champion boxer who was close to Sharrouf and reportedly married one of his daughters. Believed to have been killed in 2015.
Mohammad Ali Baryalei (NSW)
Top recruiter of Australian fighters who also tried to order attacks at home. Believed to have died fighting in 2014.
Abdullah Elmir (NSW)
Known as the “ginger jihadi”. Appeared in an Islamic State propaganda video threatening Australia. Reportedly killed in 2015.
Tareq Kamleh (WA/SA)
Worked as a doctor for Islamic State. Unverified reports suggested he died in 2018.
Sharky Jama (Victoria)
Budding male model who was killed fighting in Syria in 2015.
Adam Dahman (Victoria)
Was only 18 when he blew himself up in a suicide attack in Iraq in 2014.
Irfaan Hussein (Victoria)
Died fighting in 2015 at 19. Was close friends with Numan Haider, who was shot dead after stabbing two police officers in Melbourne.
Zia Abdul Haq (Queensland)
Went to fight after a failed marriage. Believed to have died in 2014.
