But behind his outstanding deeds on a horse, ‘Jock’ was also in deep with some of Australia’s most notorious criminals.
There were run-ins with crime figures from Carl Williams and George Freeman to disgraced NSW cop Roger Rogerson.

“As kids growing up in Braybrook, all we ever wanted to do was be an athlete or a criminal,” ‘Jock’ reveals to Andrew Rule in the Life and Crimes podcast.
Another of his underworld connections, Jimmy the Triad, was a shrewd businessman, ‘Jock’ recalls.
“If a punter was getting on a roll and starting to win, he’d stop his momentum and say ‘I’ll give you one hour in the Red Room’,” Jock says.
“You walk into this room, there were all these glamorous girls.
“They’d do things to you that I don’t even think were legal.”
