A carpet python has been caught after sneaking into a public toilet on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Footage shared to social media showed the snake’s body spilling out from under the corrugated tin roof of a men’s outdoor bathroom block, its head peeking into one of the cubicles.
Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers, who shared the video, showed up at the scene to dislodge the python and safely relocate it.
“This naughty carpet python was found peeking into the toilets at a local community facility. We headed out straight away and moved him to a more suitable habitat,” the snake catchers said.
Professional snake catcher Stuart McKenzie could be seen surveying the “beautiful” snake before gently coaxing its head out with a snake hook. Once Mr McKenzie had the snake gently by the neck, there was a short struggle to de-tangle its long tail and body, which were wrapped around the roof beams.
Once it was dislodged from the roof, the python began to climb up Mr McKenzie’s arms as he cooed: “That’s it, beautiful. Don’t bite me. I’m sorry.”
The carpet python, which looked to be as long as Mr Mckenzie was tall, was released safely into bushland.
Snakes are often found peeking into outdoor public bathrooms as the corrugated tin roofs provide shelter and warmth, Mr McKenzie explained. Their tails become looped around the supporting beams and it’s important to remove them carefully so as not to hurt them, he said.
In other images shared by the snake catching group, snakes were pictured curled up inside office desk drawers or taking a ride on the back of a Honda motorbike.
Previous videos from Mr McKenzie show a python and a huntsman the size of a baseball cap living in the same bedroom, a whole family of snake skins found in a Queensland roof and a massive brown snake making its way into a family’s home.
