Two sides cracked 80, a favourite fell, one team kept their rivals scoreless and there were multiple hat tricks in a wacky and wonderful opening round of Sydney Rugby Union 1st Colts.
The red hot boot of Felix Turinui also turned heads in the opening round of 1st Colts where his teammate Oscar Jorgenson was one of a number of players to go over three times and the defending champions fell in a shock loss.
Sydney Uni amassed an extra extraordinary 87 points in round one despite having numerous players absent due to an Australian U20s camp ahead of the U20 World Cup later this year.
Randwick left the field with an impressive 80 point score line in another dominating performance in round one where Felix Turinui nailed 10 conversions.
In a weekend of good kicking, Ben Playford, Hugo Kulcsar and Macintyre Bird all kicked nine.
Gordon were the only team able to keep their opposition scoreless in their 78-0 defeat of the Two Blues.
The closest match of the round was between Warringah and the Hunter Wildfires in Newcastle with the Rats just edging their opposition.
Eastern Suburbs, also hit by the Australian squad camp and a loss of personnel, caused the shock of the round with their unexpected loss to Southern Districts who had two players score three tries each in Kamisese Tuqalo and King Manu.

Manly drew first blood in the 2025 season with a big win over Northern Suburbs on home turf at Manly Oval
In the first evening match of the season the Marlins dominated in the 23 point victory.

HUNTER WILDFIRES 34 lost to WARRINGAH 38
Warringah headed up the freeway for a match their coach always expected to dangerous for his young side and it was.
But in the end they prevailed by four with Ezekiel James Guttenbeil on of the stars for the Rats at Newcastle Sports Ground 2.

The Two Blues were the only club in the Sydney Rugby Union 1st Colts comp not to get points on the board in round one.
In contrast last year’s runners up went on a scoring rampage in the blowout at Eric Tweedale Stadium.

Uni put on quite a show at St John’s College Oval with their big win over West Harbour.
Standouts for Uni included Tuqalo and Manu who both scored three tries each in the match.

SOUTHEN DISTRICTS 31 beat EASTERN SUBURBS 25
In the shock of the round the defending 1st Colts champions fell at Woollahra Oval.
Levi Dangerfield scored two tries for a Souths side their coach said came via “outstanding defence’’.
“They just put it out there,’’ Jake Holman said.

EASTWOOD 12 lost to RANDWICK 80
Jorgensen was a standout with his three tries and Turinui was deadly with the boot in this blowout.
“No one played poorly. It was a good start for us,’’ said coach Jack Harriosn.
“We played will but we have plenty ton improve.’’
