They have a mix of local and country players and some talented reps and its why this Sydney Rugby Union 1st Colts side is aiming to rise through the ranks in 2025.
It’s been a slow but steady rise for the Northern Suburbs 1st Colts who have moved up four positions on the competition ladder in the last two seasons and are targeting the top six this year.
“We are still in a building stage but the finals are the goal,” said Norths Colts coaching director Seth Stoltenberg ahead of the opening round of the new 1st Colts season starting on Friday night.
Norths, who managed seven wins from the 18 rounds matches last season, will get their first chance to test their mettle on Friday night when they take on Manly Marlins in the opening game of the new season.
Stoltenberg has named his side for the contest with Fraser Wait to captain and the likes of Waratahs U19 player Bailey Park and Hugo Orpin also in the side to play at Manly.
“We finished eighth last year, we were 10th the year before,’’ he said.
“We are starting to put roots into the program now to ensure sustained success.
“We want to ensure our Colts are filling the Firsts (Shute Shield) spaces for years to come.
“It’s about reconnecting with the Norths juniors, finding guys from the country and giving them grade exposure.’’
Stoltenberg said defending champions Eastern Suburbs still look to be the team to beat this season with Sydney Uni, second at the end of the 2024 regular season, recruiting well.
“But the joy is everyone is capable to beating everyone,’’ he said.
“People do underestimate us at times. We look forward to causing some upsets at some stage.’’
