TAB Market Update - Sir John Monash

OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation this weekend.

THE EARLY OIL: CAULFIELD

THE PUNT: WEEKEND SPORTS BETTING GUIDE

Last week … Two winners. Well, let’s put that one behind us as quickly as possible. That was an absolute shocker but to our defence we did manage three seconds and four thirds. Not that there is any solace in that. Herald Sun tipster Glenn McFarlane found the winner’s enclosure with Good ‘N Fast ($2.90) saluting at the wind-affected Flemington meeting, while TAB guru Nick Quinn returned to the winners’ list with Hallelujah Boy ($1.50) hitting the bullseye at Doomben.

SATURDAY (AEST)

ROSEHILL GARDENS (9 races, start 11.35am), CAULFIELD (9 races, 11.50am), SUNSHINE COAST (9 races, 11.42am), MORPHETTVILLE (8 races, 1.06pm), BELMONT (8 races, 2.34pm)

ROSEHILL GARDENS

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegragh) Form: 36432

ALASSIO (Race 4, No. 6 — $3.10)

She makes her own luck in races, begins quickly, settles on speed and finds plenty under pressure. This is her first test in Saturday class and although she might not get her own way in front, she has demonstrated an ability to reel off swift closing sectionals. Hard to beat again.

Value bet: CURRAGH (Race 6, No. 8 — $6)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 31522

DRACHENFELS (Race 8, No. 11 — $6)

He’s trialled up sensationally for his first-up run and he flies fresh, at the track and has only won at 1200m.

Value bet: ROMAN TYPHOON (Race 2, No. 7 — $4.80)

BRAD DAVIDSON (Sky Racing) Form: 63325

DREAMFORCE (Race 7, No. 3 — $5)

Needs luck early but we’re getting $5 to counteract that. His two runs this prep have been nothing short of outstanding.

Value bet: ONCE MORE A LADY (Race 4, No. 4 — $9.50)

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegragh) Form: s16812

HIGHWAY SIXTYSIX (Race 2, No. 1 — $3.60)

Danny Williams has won fifteen and a half (dead-heat) Highway Hcps and this filly will go very close to giving him another. She went quickly and was strong for a narrow win in a 1200m version of the race on July 7. She’s very smart and they’ll be flat out catching her again this week.

Value bet: AL GALAYEL (Race 6, No. 4 — $4.40)

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman) Form: s39s07

DRACHENFELS (Race 8, No. 11 — $6)

Resumes here after an extended absence. He looks in the most amazing shape too, like I said, his trials have been enormous — you’d give him your Everest slot on the last one! The son of Street Cry has some compelling figures too — he is 1 for 1 at the t/d beating Pipeline and Lanicato, he is 3s 1-1-1 fresh and all of his four wins are at this trip.

Value bet: LEVEL EIGHT (Race 5, No. 3 — $13)

TAB Market Update - Winter Stakes

CAULFIELD

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun) 1s103

MOUNT KILCOY (Race 6, No. 3 — $2.80)

Finished off strongly at Flemington last Saturday over 1600m when he left his run late. Step up to 2000m should prove ideal.

Value bet: SOUL STAR (Race 2, No. 11 — $6.50)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun). Form: 31221

MOUNT KILCOY (Race 6, No. 3 — $2.80)

Looked a good thing beaten last time when flashing home late to just miss. A real chance of making up for that this time around.

Value bet: AL GALAYEL (Rosehill Race 6, No. 4 — $4.40)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 11223

MANTASTIC (Race 3, No. 14 — $2.40)

Had to concede from the barrier last start and recorded the fastest sectionals when a narrow second.

Value bet: HUMMA HUMMA (Race 1, No. 1 — $5.50)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 31261

MOUNT KILCOY (Race 6, No. 3 — $2.80)

Won well at Sandown three starts ago before running second at Flemington his past two starts, steps up to 2000m which looks ideal and will be worth sticking with as he races through the grades.

Value bet: HUNTER JACK (Rosehill Race 9, No. 11 — $21)

SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 32s113

MALAISE (Race 9, No. 12 — $5.50)

Has shown plenty of merit in both runs back and should be at peak fitness for this. Drops significantly in weight and has the man who can do no wrong aboard.

Value bet: RIB EYE (Race 3, No. 11 — $9.50)

SUNSHINE COAST

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 11379

ZOUSTYLE (Race 4, No. 5 — $1.65)

Outstanding debut at Doomben where he clocked fast time for the day and could have won by even further. The $2 or thereabouts seems a generous early offering.

Value bet: ROMNEY’S CHOICE (Race 8, No. 12 — $9)

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS

MORPHETTVILLE

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 12x15

AIR GUITAR (Race 5, No. 1 — $4.20)

Impressive winning here last time out when he got back inside horses was able to pick up momentum, take a gap and power over the top of rivals.

Unbeaten and is no doubt a horse with above average ability perfectly placed by Darren Weir.

Value bet: ARTIES DREAMWINNER (Race 8, No, 15 — $10)

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
