TAB market update: VICTORIA DERBY

THERE’S something about Flemington and roses so don’t be surprised if Bring Me Roses blossoms into something special when she contests the Wakeful Stakes on Saturday.

Leading Herald Sun form analyst Michael Manley expects her to continue on from her dominant win in Edward Maniford Stakes at the same venue last month.

He has selected her as his best bet for the card with fellow three-year-old filly Catchy his value bet in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Race 1: The Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) 11.45am

SNITZEPEG (1) is racing in great fashion and is trekking similarly to another Darren Weir galloper Mahuta who won this race two years ago after winning over 1400m at Caulfield. Snitzepeg also won here two starts ago. He sat behind LORD SUNDOWNER (10) last start and was too strong for him. This race might set up in similar fashion. LEVENDI (7) didn’t have a lot of luck in the closing stages in the Caulfield Guineas. Sprinted home well after being held up to finish sixth beaten less than four lengths. From barrier five he should settle closer. Flemington should suit. RELLSON (15) finished off nicely for fourth behind Snitzepeg at Flemington two starts ago. OCTABELLO (11) had little luck last start at Caulfield. James Cummings’ pair of BEAU GESTE (2) and GAULOIS (3) both have talent.

Suggested bet: Snitzepeg each-way

Race 2: Wakeful Stakes (2000m) 12.20pm

BRING ME ROSES (1) sat back but left her rivals floundering as she produced a fast 11.57 seconds last 200m when she won the Edward Manifold Stakes a month ago. Her trainer Tony McEvoy said afterwards she wouldn’t appear again to this race. She should be even better suited over 2000m. RIMRAAM (6) tried hard when second behind Pinot over 2000m at Caulfield last start in the Ethereal Stakes. Similarly HIYAAM (5) battled on well for third. TEODORA (10) has a tough run in that race and ran on well for fourth. Sydneysider LUVALUVA (7) chased home a good galloper in Kaonic last start over 1600m at Randwick. Her trainer John Sargent trained back to back winners of this in 2013 and 2014 with Kirramosa and Thunder Lady.

SUGGESTED BET: BRING ME ROSES THE WIN

Race 3: Skip Sprint (1100m) 1pm

Open race. CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN (12) suffered her first defeat when third last start in the Rosemont Stud Stakes. She was far from disgraced as she over-raced early and then had to race wide throughout the run. She kept fighting for third and raced greenly in the straight which she has done in all of her starts. There’s going to be a lot of speed in this and the straight should suit. Sydney mare NIETA (5) was a short priced favourite when third at Caulfield last start behind Fuhryk but was deep throughout. Flying mare SHEIDEL (1) is always a chance in these races. She won this race last spring with last spring carrying 57.5kg but will carry 59kg this year. LAKE COMO (7) loves the straight. Alice Springs mare DESERT LASHES (4) will be in it for a long way. LYUBA (6) and WRITTEN ERA (11) have claims.

SUGGESTED BET: CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN EACH-WAY

Race 4: Lexus Stakes (2500m) 1.40pm

ALOFT (4) went out at a break neck speed but compounded a long way out in the Herbert Power Stakes but got his tongue over the bit. Great effort to run on for third in the JRA Trophy this track and distance before that behind Almandin. VENGEUR MASQUE (6) was strong winning the Geelong Cup last start racing on speed and then holding off Gallic Chieftain. He’s always shown good staying potential and may now be ready to deliver. HARLEM (2) found trouble in the straight when eighth in the Caulfield Cup. Not much luck at his previous run when fifth in The Bart Cummings here. KELLSTORM (10) finished on well for sixth in the Geelong Cup. ALWARD (9) has been racing well in tiny Sydney fields.

SUGGESTED BET: ALOFT EACH-WAY

Race 5: Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) 2.25pm

Sensational race. Should be stacks of speed which will suit CATCHY (16) who is dropping back in distance after Caulfield Guineas placing. Three starts ago she finished powerfully to win this track and distance and she’ll be suited by her wide draw of barrier 17. Second placegetter in that race KEMENTARI (2) has also been freshened up for this. The other brilliant fillies from Lindsay Park FORMALITY (18) and TULIP (17) will also be hard to beat coming off good last starts. Formality held off JUKEBOX (6) to win the Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield and TULIP (17) was the first three-year-old home in The Everest with a fifth placing. Undefeated Sydney colt VIRIDINE (5) was impressive winning the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick last start. INVINCIBLE STAR (19) and EPTIMUM (10) were both impressive last start winners. MERCHANT NAVY (8), TRAPEZE ARTIST (1) and LIMESTONE (20) also have chances.

SUGGESTED BET: CATCHY EACH-WAY

TAB market update: MYER CLASSIC

Race 6: Myer Classic (1600m) 3.05pm

Not much luck second-up for SILENT SEDITION (5) when she finished fifth in the Tristarc Stakes at Caulfield as she was trapped wide throughout behind Global Glamour. Third-up last campaign she was just beaten in the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill which was an enormous effort as she started from barrier 18. From barrier four she should get a nice run in what should be a fast run race. SHOALS (16) was run down by the brilliant Aloisia when second to her in the Thousand Guineas. Global Glamour Glamour is a brilliant mare who will be in the firing line from barrier three. NOW OR LATER (14) burst home to win over 1400m here two starts ago and then had little luck in the Tristarc Stakes at her last start. FOXPLAY (3) will be better suited over 1600m at Flemington. Last year’s winner I AM A STAR (4) pulled up lame so had excuses last start.

SUGGESTED BET: SILENT SEDITION EACH-WAY

Race 7: Victoria Derby (2500m) 3.50pm

SULLY (6) has drawn out but has Hugh Bowman on to overcome the draw. He charged home for third coming from last and was held up also for a run in the Spring Champion Stakes behind ACE HIGH (1) last start. He should relish the 2500m. Stablemate MAIN STAGE (5) wasn’t suited by Caulfield last start but still managed third in the Norman Robinson Stakes. Go on his win two starts ago over 1800m here when he rocketed home. Another stablemate JOHNNY VINKO (13) fought on well for third in that race and got too far out of his ground and was too wide in the Geelong Classic. Ace High from barrier three will be in the firing line throughout. TANGLED (2) fought on well for second in the Caulfield Classic. ASTERIA (3) ran on for third in the Geelong Classic.

SUGGESTED BET: SULLY EACH-WAY

TAB market update: CANTALA STAKES

Race 8: Kennedy Mile (1600m) 4.35pm

TOSEN STARDOM (1) defied the track pattern when an easy winner of the Toroak Handicap last start at Caulfield. He might settle closer from his outside barrier. He was outstanding last start and might prove too good again for his rivals. EGG TART (6) finished sixth in that race and was a little disappointing. If she could find her best form she’ll go close with 52kgs. Stablemate TOM MELBOURNE (5) worked hard from an outside barrier in the Toorak Handicap and wasn’t disgraced tiring to finish sixth. Waller has another four horses in the race with ALL OUR ROADS (12) and MCREERY (4) chances. Toorak Handicap runner-up SOVEREIGN NATION (2) and SO SI BON (11) also have claims.

SUGGESTED BET: TOSEN STARDOM THE WIN

Race 9: TAB Multiplier Stakes (1200m) 5.20pm

Extremely open. RICH CHARM (11) is racing in great fashion with four wins and an unlucky fourth from his last five starts. He finished strongly to run down KEEN ARRAY (2) last start at Caulfield. He loves the straight. Keen Array will be hard to beat as will ILLUSTRIOUS LAD (1) who he finished second to in this race last year. SWEET SHERRY (14) stuck to her guns when fifth over 1000m at Group 2 level behind Snitty Kitty at Caulfield last start. She will be better suited over 1200m and is worth another chance. MISSROCK (7), BONS AWAY (8), RAVI (9) and MALIBU STYLE (10) all have chances.

SUGGESTED BET: RICH CHARM EACH-WAY
