TAB market update: VICTORIA DERBY

WHO will back a winner on Derby Day?

Last week Browny and Ando saluted with Lucky Hussler at odds (Brown was on fire), Miles and Grothy cashed in on value bets Banish and Eptimum while Bruce was spot on with Aloisia.

Here’s this week’s intel.

DERBY DAY: LIVE COVERAGE

DUSTY DRAW FOR FAVOURITE

DANIEL HARFORD (RSN 927)

BEST BET

Race 6 No.2 Global Glamour ($5.50)

Enormous winning first up and reckon the gate (3) allows her to position perfectly and the mile is even more suitable.

BEST VALUE

Race 2 No.14 Cabierro ($19)

Untapped ability. Will need some luck from the draw (16) but watch for her running late. Huge future

SAM HYLAND

BEST BET

Race 4 No.2 Harlem ($3.80)

Was a touch held up in the Caulfield Cup. Will get a soft run from the gate here and big track will be perfect for him.

BEST VALUE

Race 2 No.5 Hiyaam ($8)

Will be better for the run at 2000m last start behind the sharp Pinot. She will love Flemington and will keep coming in the straight.

SAM GROTH (tennis star)

BEST BET

Race 5 No.10 Eptimum ($8.50)

Hot field but I’m sticking with him after making it three wins in a row at Moonee Valley last week.

BEST VALUE

Race 1 No.8 Paseeto ($17)

Won last two starts at Morphettville for Tony McEvoy and Jamie Kah. Needs some luck from barrier 14 but can win.

SHANE CRAWFORD (Channel 9)

BEST BET

Race 2 No.10 Teodora ($7)

Wasn’t suited by the way the track played at Caulfield and seems better suited here with the Darren Weir polish giving her a big chance.

BEST VALUE

Race 6 No.14 Now Or Later ($16)

Massive run last start and set for this race. Happy to be on Robert Smerdon and Craig Williams at the each-way value.

Ricky Ponting and Shane Crawford both tipped a big run from Humidor in the Cox Plate. Picture: Mark Stewart

RICKY PONTING (Crownbet)

BEST BET

Race 2 No.1 Bring Me Roses ($3.80)

Super win in the Edward Manifoild here a month ago and the extra 400m should suit even better.

BEST VALUE
Race 5 No.16 Catchy ($8)

Has Flemington 1200m form with a win in the Danehill Stakes in September and should handle drop back in distance.

GREG MILES (calling royalty)

BEST BET

Race 1 No.7 Levendi ($3.50)

Ran a great race without luck in the Caulfield Guineas; not far off Royal Symphony who ran fourth in the Cox Plate. Flemington 1600m looks ideal.

BEST VALUE

Race 9 No.15 Man From Uncle ($7.50)

Very promising, lightly raced four-year-old from Anthony Cummings team. Unbeaten fresh. Straight debut but did very nicely in a recent jump-out up the straight finishing alongside Redzel.

OUR SNEAKY CHANCE PODCAST SPECIAL GUEST KATELYN MALLYON TALKS HOSTILITIES TOWARDS JOCKEYS, RIDING FOR FIVE-TIME MELBOURNE CUP-WINNING OWNER LLOYD WILLIAMS AND, OF COURSE, FINDING A WINNER DERBY DAY

MATT HILL (Premier racecaller)

BEST BET

Race 8 No.10 Sovereign Nation ($9)

Will enjoy return to Flemington after nice second to Tosen Stardom at Caulfield.

BEST VALUE

Race 7 No.4 Eshtiraak ($21)

Another Hayes, Hayes and Dabernig hope, should be finishing off at a price in the Derby.

ADAM HAMILTON (TAB)

BEST BET
Race 1 No.7 Levendi ($3.50)

Exciting prospect. Nothing went right at all at Caulfield last time. Great start to the day.

BEST VALUE

Race 2 No.2 Pure Scot ($17)

Looked flat on the quick back-up last time. Previous run on this track was a real eye-catcher and had no luck. Will motor home late.

LIBBY HOPWOOD (Sky Racing)

BEST BET

Race 8 No.6 Egg Tart ($6)

Freshened after a steady closing effort last start. Quality galloper peaking third up and genuine tempo will suit.

BEST VALUE

Race 3 No.4 Desert Lashes ($9)

Quality South Australian visitor who handled the jump to black type Melbourne grade well last start. She’ll be more settled this time and will take some catching with the addition of blinkers.

JAIMEE ROGERS (TAB)

BEST BET

Race 4 No.6 Vengeur Masque ($7)

Impressive Geelong Cup win running quicker time than American and Dunaden before their victories in the Melbourne Cup. Should go on with it.

BEST VALUE

Race 3 No.7 Lake Como ($7.50)

Unbeaten fresh and loves the straight. Expect to be cherry ripe for this. Each-way for her.

NATHAN BROWN (Sportsbet)

BEST BET

Race 6, No.5 Silent Sedition ($8.50)

Group 1 winning mare, ready to win third-up. Should be able to sit on the speed from gate 4 and has the best turn of foot in the race.

BEST VALUE

Race 9 No.7 Missrock ($15)

I like the sound of a $15 get out stakes. Back to 1200m where she almost beat Vega Magic in the Goodwood. Hugh Bowman on board, it’s all lining up!

ROSS STEVENSON (3AW)

BEST BET

Race 2 No.6 Rimraam ($9)

The Hayes stable is flying, as is rider Kerrin McEvoy. Plus she was excellent when chasing Pinot at Caulfield on a leader-biased track.

BEST VALUE

Race 1 No.4 Danger Deal ($31)

Love the jockey in Jeff Lloyd and think he can settle close behind the likely leaders in Lord Sundowner and Gaulois. Just needs some luck at last.

Don’t argue with Macca’s Victoria Derby tip.

JON ANDERSON (Herald Sun)

BEST BET

Race 7 No.6 Sully ($7.50)

On a very tough day, Sully appeals each-way in a race devoid of budding champions. Will go back for Bowman and hopefully then go forward faster than his rivals.

BEST VALUE

Race 8 No.12 All Our Roads ($12)

Love him each-way at double-figure odds. The 1600m is ideal for a former Kiwi horse that closed hard against the strange bias on Caulfield Cup day.

BRUCE MCAVANEY (Channel 7)

BEST BET

Race 6 No.2 Global Glamour ($5.50)

Huge first up win at Caulfield, two from two at 1600m, both in Group 1s, and confident she can give Gai another happy Derby Day.

BEST VALUE

Race 5 No.2 Kementari ($12)

The toughest race of the day, unlucky in the Guineas at Caulfield and will enjoy the pressure of the big field up the straight. Expect him to give James Cummings another Group 1 on Derby Day.
