BEAT THE BOOKIE: VALUE BETS
MOONEE VALLEY (Friday night)
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 21123
ZAMZAM
Race 3, No. 6
Couldn’t have better form going into this race having chased home the Golden Slipper favourites Extreme Choice and Flying Artie in the Blue Diamond for third. Has also won at Moonee Valley on a soft track.
TAB Fixed Odds: $1.85
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
ROSEHILL
LIBRAN
Race 2, No. 4
Has been improved by three runs from a spell and did well to beat Allergic in the Randwick City Stakes over 2000m at Randwick two weeks ago. Promising stayer who will appreciate getting out to 2400m for the Manion Cup. Drawn the one barrier and should get all the favours. The track conditions should not bother him as he is a soft track winner overseas. He should keep winning.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.30
NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph). Form: 14134
HEAVENS ABOVE
Race 1, No. 2
Improving mare that looks perfectly placed by in-form trainer Tim Martin. Rain will only improve her chances and she’ll line our pockets early doors for a cracking Slipper day.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.80
JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 58110
FELL SWOOP
Race 8, No. 13
Was a certainty beaten in the Oakleigh Plate when he just could not obtain a clear crack at the leaders over the concluding stages. Unbeaten twice from two preparations second-up and also undefeated in two starts at this track. There’s plenty to enthuse about him, especially with his paper weight of just 52.5kg today.
TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50
LISTEN TO THE SUPERRACING PODCAST PREVIEW OF GOLDEN SLIPPER DAY
SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 41429
LIBRAN
Race 2, No. 4
Fourth-up, 2400m (he’s 3 starts, 2 wins at 2400m), at home, handles good/soft. The ‘gun’ rides again — easy to like/impossible to go past and probably the only good thing out of the 10 races.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.30
DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun). Form: 115x3
FLYING ARTIE
Race 7, No. 2
Gun barrier means he doesn’t have to flop back and can turn the tables on stablemate and Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice.
TAB Fixed Odds: $5
SIMON MOY (Superracing). Form: 21x25
TARZINO
Race 6, No. 1
Gun Victorian stayer on the rise who should be nearing peak for this after unlucky second in Australian Guineas. Looks well placed for this and has in-form jockey Craig Newitt aboard.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.40
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 49128
TARZINO
Race 6, No. 1
VRC Derby winner coming off a narrow and luckless defeat in the Australian Guineas.
Steps up to 2000m which should be ideal and it could be a huge day at Rosehill for the Mick Price stable.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.40
DARREN PRENDERGAST (Superracing). Form: 72111
LIBRAN
Race 2, No. 4
Broke through for first Australian win last start and European form suggests he will be even better at 2400m, having notched two wins in three runs at the trip. Right on track for the Sydney Cup.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.30
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Superracing). Form: 51183
WINX into TARZINO
Race 5, No. 2 / Race 6, No. 1
Winx is the best middle-distance galloper in the country and will win, and Tarzino the best three-year-old stayer, so why not multi the two for a nice collect?
TAB fixed odds: $3.84
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
BENDIGO
MATT STEWART (Herald Sun). Form: 16162
AZEEMA
Race 2, No. 11
Quality mare who has trialled brilliantly. Looks too good.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.80
DARYL TIMMS (Herald Sun) Form: 2518x
AZEEMA
Race 2, No.11
Showed plenty when last in work and was tuned up for this first-up assault with a 12-length win in a Cranbourne 1190m trial two weeks ago.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.80
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
DOOMBEN
NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 71513
KAISER FRANZ
Race 2, No. 3
These middle-distance events can be messy races and he was a victim of that last time and no doubt he should have won. Damian Browne takes over this time and in similar class, this looks his race.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.70
BEN DORRIES (The Courier-Mail). Form: 66727
DENARIUS
Race 5, No. 10
Quality sprinter with a nice second-up record and should account for these without too many problems. Gets a gun barrier draw and should be able to kick up and get a soft run behind main danger Satirical Lass, and go bang in the straight!
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.60
BRAD DAVIDSON (Gold Coast Bulletin). Form: 76741
KAISER FRANZ
Race 2, No. 3
The five-year-old has been crying out to win a race this preparation and the booking of Damian Browne just might prove the difference here. He couldn’t chase down Surface Tension last start but meets that horse 2kg better at the weights and should get a good run in transit. Hard to beat.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.80
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
MORPHETTVILLE
BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser). Form: 51822
NEAPOLITAN
Race 4, No. 1
Talented filly from the Phillip Stokes barn who won impressively a week ago. She should be improved by that effort and the small field helps offset her wide draw. Won’t be fancy odds but should be too classy.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.20
