Mr Quickie is already a star in Jamie Kah’s eyes, but now the leading jockey is hoping he’ll become an All-Star.

Kah, the ambassador for this year’s All-Star Mile and one of the world’s top-ranking female jockeys, rode Phil Stokes-trained Mr Quickie to her third group 1 victory in last year’s Toorak Handicap.

Now he’s among the field vying for a place in the third annual $5 million All-Star Mile, to be run at The Valley on March 13.

“He’s just a lovely horse and I would be thrilled if he’s selected in the All-Star Mile, so I’m hoping the public can get around him,” Kah said.

Eighty-three racehorses from across Australia and New Zealand are vying for a spot in this year’s event and it all comes down to public voting, which opens today.

It’s the only race in Australia where the public plays a role in choosing the final field of horses, made all the more lucrative by the prizemoney at stake.

Voters have the chance to become an honorary “owner” of their chosen horse for the day if it earns a spot in in the race, with a share in the $500,000 total prize pool up for grabs — including $250,000 for “owner” of the the winning horse.

“The All-Star Mile is a great concept that’s one of a kind, which really gets the audience involved and I feel absolutely privileged to be the ambassador,” Kah said.

“The nominees come from all across the country so it’s truly a national event. Phil Stokes and myself are both from South Australia and I rode a lot for him as an apprentice, so I’d love to race for him again after all the support he’s given me.”

For your chance to take home part of the $500,000 prize pool, get behind your favourite nominated horse to help them win a spot in the race.

Voting closes on February 14. For details and the full list of 83 horses nominated for the race, go to allstarmile.com.au
