A change of plan for the preparation has paid off for trainer Phillip Stokes after Mr Quickie ran away with the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield.
Stokes told Racenet earlier in the week that he abandoned the idea that Mr Quickie is a stayer with shorter races to become targets for the five-year-old.
The five-year-old, which had not won since his 2019 Queensland Derby triumph, was ridden to victory by Jamie Kah.
Buffalo River finished second with the fast finishing Superstorm grabbing third.
