Rising Cairns track star Hutton named for Queensland’s under-19 cycling team

HE IS one of the most talented young cyclists in the Far North, and Brandon Hutton now has another chance to impress at one of Cycling Australia’s premier events.

The Cairns Cycling Club product produced the event of his life at the Queensland Track Championships at Brisbane’s Anna Meares Velodrome.

The young gun became the 19 years state champion in the keirin and 1km time trial, finished second in the sprint and set a state record in the flying 200m.

His 1km time trial time of 1min 4.573 sec was three seconds faster than that of the elite men, which was won by Townsville’s Kristian Everett.

On Friday, Hutton was unveiled as one of Queensland’s 22-strong team for 2019.

They will compete in several events at the Australian Track National Championships in April.

Hutton was named alongside Duncan Allen, James Moriarty, Declan Trezise, Ethan Viviers, Liam Walsh and Alastair Mackellar in the under-19 men’s team.
