Cody Simpson has addressed partner Emma McKeon’s uncertain future after the Olympics hero’s recent confession the Paris 2024 Olympics will be her final Games.

Australia’s golden couple are heading into unfamiliar territory, with their lives set for a major shake-up following the Paris Games, which will be 29-year-old McKeon’s third Olympic appearance.

McKeon announced her decision not to continue her career through to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics earlier this month.

Simpson has been more secretive about his future plans and has repeatedly said he has not made his mind up about continuing in swimming or returning to his music career.

However, in an exclusive interview with News Corp, Simpson has discussed Paris being a “fairytale ending” to his swimming career.

The pop artist has given a candid answer about what his relationship with McKeon will look like post-Paris.

“I’ve purposefully put a brick wall on either side of it, in that I will address it when it comes,” he said. “But never once in my life have I not known what is next.

“Emma has never had life without swimming. I know what it is like, but she has never had it, so I’m excited for her to explore her other interests and have the time to do that because she has never had it as a kid.

“I’m very fortunate to be someone who has a lot of things on the other side to look forward to regardless and another passion and career entirely that I am able to pursue again depending on what I decide on out of the pool.

“I don’t know what I’ll do yet, but I’ll make that decision later this year.”

The decision may not be his to make.

The 27-year-old stalled his lucrative singing career to chase his dreams in the pool in 2019 in a wildly optimistic pursuit.

The talented junior swimmer has already surpassed most expectations, showing impressive improvement and claiming relay gold and silver medals from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Qualifying for the Olympic Games was widely considered his ultimate goal and that is now looking a little further out of reach after his effort at the Australian Open championships on the Gold Coast earlier this month.

Competing in the 100m butterfly, Simpson came fourth in a time of 52.32 seconds.

It’s about half a second outside his personal best and well back of some of his rivals, including the long-course 100m butterfly record holder Matt Temple, who dominated the event in a time of 50.8 seconds.

Simpson was also over a second behind second-placed Shaun Champion and needs to find a bucketload of pace ahead of the Olympic trials, fast approaching in June.

Simpson then competed in the 100m freestyle final at the championships, but the results weren’t any more promising.

Kyle Chalmers looked superb, winning the race in a time of 47.63 seconds, with Simpson coming in ninth in the 10-man field well back in 49.66 seconds.

McKeon, meanwhile, recently took a break to recharge before her Paris campaign truly begins.

She is already Australia’s most decorated Olympian, with a record 11 medals for Australia and sits level with Ian Thorpe for the most gold medals with five.

Whatever McKeon achieves in Paris, she has made a call about her Olympic future.

“I think swimming will always be a part of my life and has been for my whole life so far,” McKeon told the official Games website, Olympics.com.

“But this will definitely be my last Olympics, so I’m excited for that.

“Success for me in Paris would be to swim faster than I ever have before.”

McKeon, who has also set a swag of world records and boasts a staggering 14 Commonwealth Games gold medals, is targeting the Australian Olympic trials in June before her assault on history in Paris the following month.

Simpson and McKeon recently celebrated their two-year anniversary.

The couple first went public with their relationship in June 2022, keeping their relationship secret for more than two months.
