Who are the most powerful women in Australian sport?

News Corp’s annual Power 100 list for the most powerful and influential women in Australian sport has underlined the critical role played by women in the enormous successes of the past year.

In the pool, on the water, the tracks, fields and pitches of Paris, Aussie women contributed more than 50 per cent of the overall medal tally, as well as an incredible 13 of 18 gold in Australia’s most successful Olympic campaign.

Our Paralympians then took centre stage, while our cricketers delivered an Ashes whitewash and the Matildas continued to captivate the attention of a nation – for a variety of reasons.

The rise and rise of women’s sport means the spotlight is not just on the game anymore.

The actions of and roles played by athletes away from the field of play, and on social media, is scrutinised and analysed like never before and speaks to their power as much as their performance does.

Behind the athletes every step of the way was an army of women in high-ranking administration and managerial roles, sponsors and benefactors shaping a golden generation of superstar athletes.

The Power 100 list recognises those athletes who we know will create history, be vocal advocates for issues in sport and influence the next generation with performances over the next year, whilst highlighting the incredible work done off the field from women who are shaping Australian sport behind the scenes every day of their working life.
