Jillaroos forward Shannon Mato has turned down the chance to make a shock NRLW switch by signing a long-term deal with Gold Coast.
One of the best forwards in the game, Mato shunned an impressive pursuit by closest rivals Brisbane, where she played the 2020 NRLW season, before opting to remain at the Titans.
The 25-year-old Queensland and Australia gun had contract options in her favour for 2024 and 2025, but has re-signed until the end of the 2026 season with another option in 2027.
It’s a huge coup for the Titans after their surprise grand final finish this season.
Mato was key to the Titans’ premiership push, averaging a whopping 180 metres per game while also leading the competition in post-contact metres.
Amazingly, she finished second in the competition for runs this season behind Dally M Medallist Tamika Upton.
Mato’s commitment adds stability to the Titans long-term, who have already re-signed Niall Williams for next season under coach of the year Karyn Murphy.
Only a handful of players, including Steph Hancock and Brittany Breayley-Nati remain off-contract at the club for 2024.
The NRLW draw for next season is due to be announced in coming weeks.
