Dave Reynolds will use an expletive-laden voicemail message as inspiration to win next month’s Bathurst 1000.
The Holden star has saved the savage rant on his mobile phone after an anonymous man called the Erebus Supercars team’s headquarters in Melbourne and left a scathing voicemail.
The caller attacked Reynolds by way of phone after the Bathurst winner lashed out at rival Scott McLaughlin in story in The Daily Telegraph last month.
“He must have been fired up,’’ Reynolds said.
“He left not one but two messages. I am pretty sure he doesn’t like me much.’’
The caller, an obvious McLaughlin fan, claimed Reynolds could not match it with his Ford rival in no uncertain terms.

“This message is for David Reynolds,” the caller says.
“David, you’re an absolute f … ing knob, mate.
“Knock, knock, who’s there? Scott McLaughlin who?
“He won more races at GRM than you won in your life, you f … head.
“You did nothing at FPR (Ford Performance Racing).
“You were no better than (Mark) Winterbottom or (will) Davison or (Paul) Dumbrell.
“All you Holden drivers had a much faster car than him last year and you still f … ing lost to a much, much better driver, in a f … ing taxi.”
End of messages — start of inspiration.
With the Supercars championship resuming in Auckland this week, Reynolds is aiming to be in top trim at Bathurst after banning the booze and going on a fat-busting diet in an all-out bid to avoid last year’s Mount Panorama disaster.
In a moment that the Holden hero admitted still haunts him, Reynolds last year blew a win when his body failed with just 26 laps to go.
“It still gives me nightmares,’’ Reynolds said.
“Last year was a disaster and it didn’t look good on my behalf failing more than 900km into a 1000km race.
“I am determined to do all I can to never have a moment like that. I don’t want a repeat.’’
He is hoping to outmuscle his rival’s this year when the Bathurst 1000 begins on October 10.
“I am doing weights five days a week which is new to me,’’ Reynolds said.

Reynolds committed to the new program after agreeing to take part in a 12-week challenge for his sponsor Max’s Protein.
The Erebus star is attempting to gain more muscle than fellow V8 driver Michael Caruso.
“I found out I had 22 per cent body fat when I signed up for the challenge,’’ Reynolds said.
“I thought I was in pretty good shape so that really shocked me. Max’s have put $30,000 up as part of the challenge which will go to charity.’’
