The senior boys’ team, coached by Alex Palazzolo, headline the Rowville entrants as they head north as Victorian champions.

Their theme heading into the tournament is finishing on a high.

For some players, this will be the their final school involvement as a student after recently finishing their year 12 exams.

“This is a massive challenge for us, the team hasn’t trained for almost three or four weeks because of VCE,” Palazzolo said.

“But we’re fortunate a lot of our students play for high level Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL, which is the highest standard of junior basketball clubs) so they’ve been training there.

“We’re really excited as a school about showcasing what our basketball program is about.

“We’ve had quite a successful year with five teams winning the Champions Cup (Basketball Victoria’s school competition) and the senior girls coming second.”

Rowville’s senior boys team boats an exciting roster, which includes some of Victorian basketball’s best young talent.

Corey Hastings is a lights out shooter while Joel Foxwell is a name to keep an eye on well into the future.

Although they’ll be without their best player Fraser Roxburgh, who has joined the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL as a development player this season.

“I believe we’ve got the depth to get us through, but it’s a great challenge for us,” he said.

“We’ve got some serious talent at the guard position, which is really exciting. Our team really geared itself up from about the start of term three when our competition play started.

“Our school prides itself on developing basketballers as players and also people.

“We’ve been very lucky to continue playing and now to attend this event is a real privilege.”
