Livestream: Caulfield up for St Kevins challenge in Women's Premier preliminary VAFA final (VAFA Finals Series)

They have been the best teams all season, so it’s no surprise St Kevins will face off against Kew in next weekend’s VAFA Women’s Premier grand final. CATCH the prelim final REPLAY.

Replay: VAFA - St Kevin's vs Caulfield Grammarians (Women's prelim final)

St Kevins have hit form at the right time of year, defeating a fast-starting Caulfield by a whopping 79 points in their VAFA Women’s Premier preliminary final clash at Elsternwick Park.

St Kevins skipper Sarah Cameorn led the charge kicking six goals to allow her side a bit of party time before the final siren sounded at 15.3 (93) to 2.2 (14).

Caulfield kicked the first three scoring shots of the day to get out to an eight-point lead before the minor premiers flexed their muscles to power home.

One goal came through Chloe Brown, who banged a long bomb from 55 metres out which trickled past the big sticks and put her side up by 23 points.

St Kevins will take on Kew next week in a massive Grand Final, which will see the sides face off for the fourth time this season.

PREVIEW: Caulfield full of confidence for tough showdown

Caulfield are confident they can “match it” with the best teams in the competition ahead of their do-or-die VAFA Women’s Premier preliminary final against St Kevins on Sunday.

Streamed by KommunityTV on News Corp websites from midday, the high-flying Caulfield side will take on minor premiers St Kevins, who fell short against Kew last week in a highly contested game.

In previous meetings this season, St Kevins have taken the wins by 17 and 15 points respectively.

Caulfield coach Damien Keeping was wary of the strong contested game of St Kevins and their ability to move the ball effectively, although he believed his side was up for the fight.

“We know that we have got a real challenge in front of us, I think we’re open to that,” Keeping said.

“We understand we’ve got a game style that can match it with the better teams in the competition and if we really focus on delivering that, then we’re open to seeing where it takes us to.”

St Kevins captain Sarah Cameron will be a player to watch as she leads the competition for goals with 36, while Caulfield’s Chloe O‘Malley sits in equal second with 24.

One player who has lifted the Fields has been forward Arna Rogers who missed the first half of the season due to a knee injury but has since come back into the side from the first final and performed strongly.

“The resilience that she’s shown earlier in the season, the commitment that she had to her teammates and the way in which she gave back to the program when she couldn’t play… and then for her to be experiencing some of the reward she is now, that in itself, I know the playing group feel the joy through the experience that Arna is taking on at the moment,” he said.

Keeping said Rogers was “doing everything possible” to support the group in the first half of the season by helping with goal umpiring, handing water bottles out and holding coaching boards.

He said the team valued and were motivated by Rogers‘ journey this season.

“It’s those sort of players that form the fabric of your culture,” he said.

“She is a big voice and she’s the life of the party.

“I know that her teammates and the rest of us around the program really value the way she is able to be authentic and bring that authenticity out in other people as well.

“So she has been hugely valuable for the program off-field and now getting some reward on-field.

“It’s been a great journey to watch her go through and share with her teammates.”

Rogers kicked a vital goal in her side’s seven-point win over Melbourne University last week.

Keeping said their season has already been incredible.

“We got a really young group not just in age but experience in terms of game time, so for them to be achieving what they have done this is just incredible,” he said.

“We had a real focus around just improving every chance that we could get right from the start of pre-season.

“For us to be competing at the pointy end of the season and last week was just such a joyful experience for the whole group.

“They have hung onto that and they are really excited about the challenge in front of them and I have got a real confidence that they will do the best they can on the weekend.”
