Live stream: KommunityTV to broadcast exclusive SFL Community League across 2025 season

After going through an off-season rebrand, the SFL Community League is shaping as one of the closest seasons in recent memory – and each round you can watch the action LIVE.

While it may have gone through an off-season rebrand, SFL president David O’Byrne is confident the new Community League is shaping up for one of its most competitive campaigns in recent memory.

Each week, KommunityTV will bring you an SFL Community League double-header with both the senior women’s and men’s games to be streamed live and exclusive.

And this year’s coverage will kick off in a big way with an AFL premiership star to pull on the boots.

Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan is set to line up for the Huonville Lions when they host New Norfolk in the opening round on Saturday, April 12.

With the reintroduction of five former Tasmanian State League clubs following the discontinuation of the state league, the SFL has been split into Premier and Community leagues for 2025.

Reigning premiers Cygnet along with Huonville Lions, Lindisfarne, Sorell, Dodges Ferry, New Norfolk, Hobart and Claremont will battle it out to be crowned inaugural Community League premiers.

2024 finalist Brighton will join the five former TSL clubs in the Premier League.

While excited by Swan’s one-off appearance, O’Byrne was equally as thrilled with the way a number of clubs had looked to improve over the off-season.

“It’s been a long summer and everyone is just champing at the bit to get back to the footy,” O’Byrne said.

“We’re a matter of weeks away and obviously there’s been a restructure in Tassie in terms of the two divisions of the SFL Premier and Community Leagues, but the Community League has been sort of the heart and soul of southern footy so we’re very excited for that season.

“I think when you look at some of the clubs that have struggled to really compete in the last few years, they’re working hard off field to improve their on-field performance.

“Obviously Hobart have recruited very well and they have a new coach and players coming back to the club off the back of a rebuilding year last year, so that’s exciting.

“Dodges Ferry has recruited heavily and rebuilt after losing a lot of players to retirement a couple of years back. Sorell is up and about again and I think those three clubs will be sort of fighting it out for the final positions behind the obvious giants of the league who will be strong again this year in Lindisfarne, Cygnet and Huonville Lions.

“And then you have New Norfolk, who were competitive at the back end of last year, so we’re hoping for improvement there and Claremont have openly acknowledged they’re in a rebuilding phase with young kids coming through.

“So when you look across the league, there’s some real excitement for some competitive games.”

While nothing is ever a given in footy, Brighton’s jump could open up a finals spot for one of four clubs that missed the cut last season.

And while it may take 16 rounds of football for that to come to fruition, O’Byrne said the Robins were a blueprint for other clubs to follow.

“Brighton have been building from, you know, their lowest ebb only four or five years ago when they were struggling to maintain their existence,” he said.

“So it’s great they’ve been able to make that jump and it really does open up an opportunity for someone to potentially make that jump into finals.”

2025 will be the third straight season KommunityTV partners with the SFL.

“We value the relationship with KommunityTV. It’s enabled us to really show the community across all the subscribers across Tasmania, across the country and across the world,” O’Byrne said.

“The telecast has been very important for us to show people the kind of games and the kind of teams that we’re putting on down here in Tassie.”
