While they may have faced a tough start to 2025, Claremont is confident that form could quickly turn around come this weekend’s clash against Dodges Ferry.
Having lost the first two games of the season against the top two teams on the ladder, the Magpies will now come up against the Sharks in an Anzac weekend clash.
The round three men’s and women’s matchups will be streamed live and exclusive on KommunityTV on Saturday.
Claremont young gun Lachlan Blackwell was full of praise for new Magpies coach Nathan Senior despite their tough start to the season.
“Nathan (Senior) has been absolutely amazing for club, he is keeping the morale up and he is bringing the culture back to the club as well which gets us boys up and about,” Blackwell said.
“On game day we can have that big crowd come and support us even though the results aren’t going our way.
“We have come up against quality oppositions, arguably the two best teams in the competition.
“There are patches where we have looked good, the first 15 minutes against Sorell, we had about five inside 50s to their zero.
“It is just about being able to hold that throughout the whole game really.
“We will just focus on ourselves and improve from last week, that is our main task.
“We know they have a lot of new players, so not sure what they look like but arguably last year we played our best footy against Dodges and we hope to hold that standard again.”
Dodges Ferry are coming off a massive win against New Norfolk to claim their first win of the season.
And despite Claremont currently being in somewhat of a rebuilding phase, Sharks senior player Brad Joseph says they won’t be taking them lightly.
“It has been a mixed start to the year, being 1-1,” Joseph said.
“Coming up against Lindisfarne in round 1, we got within 20 points of them and that’s a massive improvement from last year,” Joseph said.
“(We’ve) had heaps of change from last year. We had eight debuts in round 1 and have brought in heaps of young guys. (They bring) heaps of energy and a high skill level, which has been good.
“(Claremont) are going through a tough time at the moment, tough start to the year, but they have had two quality oppositions they’ve come up against.
“We will just focus on ourself this week and look to play four quarters of good footy.
“The bigger grounds sort of suit us a bit more with the game style we have and the younger, quicker guys but always nice to play at home.”
