Trainer James Cummings mulling over plans for stable stars Broadsiding and Tom Kitten

Godolphin had a massive day in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday but it wasn’t to be for one of their brightest stars.

Trainer James Cummings is keeping an open mind about what’s next for beaten Randwick Guineas favourite Broadsiding while weighing up options in Sydney and Melbourne for All Star Mile winner Tom Kitten.

Godolphin had a day to remember across Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday with four stakes winners, three of which were trained by Cummings.

Tom Kitten (All Star Mile), Tempted (Reisling Stakes) and Commemorative (Wenona Girl) all saluted while the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Tentyris won the Group 2 Todman Stakes for the Blue Army.

But it could have been even better for the racing and breeding powerhouse had Broadsiding won the Group 1 Randwick Guineas.

Broadsiding found one better in the form of Linebacker in the three-year-old mile test at Royal Randwick when a $1.65 favourite.

“I felt Broadsiding repeated his good effort from first-up,” Cummings said.

“He was outstayed late by Linebacker but was game all the way to the line.

“He has run very well his first two runs back this preparation and I like that it should set him up for the rest of the campaign.

“I think our options are open with him.”

A date with the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) are both suitable targets for Broadsiding.

The George Ryder is also an option for Tom Kitten following his terrific win in the Group 1 All Star Mile at Flemington.

Tom Kitten surged home from the back to run down champion galloper Mr Brightside in the feature and also has options in Melbourne next start.

“He was huge,” Cummings said.

“He had been scintillating during the week and backed it up against the heavyweights.

“We have options with him.

“The Australian Cup is going to look nice in three weeks but he could so be back here (Sydney) and use the George Ryder as a key lead up to the Doncaster so they are the two options we are looking at.

“We could be well represented in either race with Zardozi in Melbourne and I’ve got the colt Broadsiding to think about where I go next.”

Tempted will next line up in the $5 million Golden Slipper while Commemorative is set to chase more black type following her slashing win in the last on Saturday.

“I do like the look of the Birthday Card for Commemorative in a couple of weeks but we can re-evaluate,” Cummings said.

“It was a strong win and I liked the way she put them away late.”
