ROGUISH is set to prove his brilliant debut win at Canberra was no fluke when he lines up in a Class 1 Handicap (1100m) at Gosford today.
Form jockey Blake Spriggs didn’t ride Roguish in that race but was not surprised to see the three-year-old streak home more than four lengths clear of his rivals, recording fast time without being fully tested.
“Roguish was very impressive, he jog-trotted home,’’ Spriggs said.
“I had a bit to do with him last preparation and he has plenty of ability.
“Out of all the young horses that Timmy (Martin) has I thought Roguish was the one that would get running early.’’
Jay Ford rode Roguish in his debut win but Spriggs takes over on the gelding today.
Roguish, well bred by top sire More Than Ready out of Group 1 winner Cheeky Choice, is among six rides for Spriggs at the Gosford meeting.
Spriggs also partners first starter One More A Lady in the Two-year-old Maiden Handicap (1000m).
One More a Lady, trained by Joe Pride, has showed above average ability in two recent barrier trial wins.
“I know Joe is excited about this filly,’’ Spriggs said. “I saw him at Wyong the other day and he told me if I was going to Gosford (today) then I need to ride this filly as it goes very well.’’
Spriggs is enjoying a break-out season and rode his 70th winner on all racetracks when he partnered Look To The Stakes in her Listed Princess Stakes win at the Sunshine Coast last Saturday.
He will be out for more big-race success at the Queensland carnival next Saturday at the Gold Coast with bookings for the talented David Vandyke-trained stayers Maurus and Astronomos, and Tap This for Team Snowden.
