Euroa produced a stunning final-quarter display to send Mooroopna packing from the Goulburn Valley league finals series.

Mooroopna led by eight points at the last change of Sunday’s elimination final, helped by four goals to Jackson Trengove in the first half.

But Euroa unleashed a 7.2 to nil final term display to remain in the flag race after finishing runner-up last year.

Former Euroa coach JD Hayes played his first match at senior level since round 12 and starred along with brother Will.

Jett Trotter kicked three of his four goals in the final-quarter avalanche and Nathan Stewart booted three.

Echuca steamrolled Seymour by 32 points in the qualifying final to remain favourites to complete back-to-back premierships.

OVENS AND MURRAY

Wodonga advanced to the second week of finals with a crushing 40-point win against Wangaratta Rovers in the elimination final.

The Bulldogs had not played finals since 2009 and led by 54 points at three-quarter time.

Livewire forward Noah Spiteri booted four goals for Wodonga and Angus Baker, one of the leading contenders for the Morris Medal, had 38 possessions.

Wodonga coach Jordan Taylor is stepping down at the end of the season and has been strongly linked to a return to his original club, Finley.

Albury will play Yarrawonga in Saturday’s second semi-final after beating Wangaratta in the qualifying final.

Tigers’ co-coach Anthony Miles is hitting form after a delayed start to the season due to a badly broken leg.

Wangaratta coach Ben Reid won’t play again this year after undergoing recent surgery on his arm.

Southern Mallee Giants booked a grand final berth with a 24-point win against the previously undefeated Ararat in the second semi-final.

Josh Webster has shaken off his second half of the season hamstring issues to boot five goals for the Giants with coach Kieran Delahunty and key defender Sam White also back after encountering injuries late in the season.

The Giants suffered a shock loss to previously winless Warrack Eagles in round 17, but have hit form at the right time with Ararat left to play Horsham Saints in the preliminary final.

HAMPDEN

Koroit’s golden run has come to an end with a 22-point loss to Cobden in the elimination final.

The Saints won six flags in a row between 2014 and 2019 before the two-season shutdown due to Covid before winning again last year.

Cobden co-captain Paul Pekin was a star with five goals including an important steadying goal early in the final term after Koroit had cut a 38-point halftime deficit to only three at the last change.

North Warrnambool won by a point against Terang-Mortlake in the qualifying final to earn a shot at South Warrnambool in Saturday’s second semi-final.
