‘Wonderful’: Rachael Haynes’ heartwarming family reveal

Following a devastating injury blow, Australian vice-captain Rachael Haynes has revealed her partner has given birth to a baby boy.

Australian vice-captain Rachael Haynes is a mother, revealing her partner has given birth to a healthy baby boy.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Haynes would miss the historic pink-ball Test match against India due to a hamstring injury.

The 34-year-old suffered the injury during Australia’s third ODI against India in Mackay, and subsequently would not feature in the remainder of the multi-format series.

But on Saturday afternoon, Haynes revealed the “silver lining” of missing the day-night Test match on the Gold Coast.

Haynes and her partner, former Australian and New South Wales cricketer Leah Poulton, welcomed Hugo Poulton-Haynes to the world on Friday in Sydney.

“As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining,” Haynes posted on Twitter on Saturday.

“While disappointed to miss the Test, yesterday fate took hold and we welcomed Hugo Poulton-Haynes into the world. Mum and bub are doing well, and we can’t help but think our world has become a little brighter.”

Haynes had returned home to New South Wales on Tuesday, just 24 hours before the birth.

Former Australian captain Lisa Sthalekar wrote: “Best news Rach and Leah so happy for you guys.”

Australian teammate Jess Jonassen posted: “Congratulations to you both! Can’t wait to meet little Hugo.”

Former Australian better Alex Blackwell wrote: “Many congratulations to you both. Wonderful news.”

Channel 7 presenters Trent Copeland and Andy Maher also offered their congrats on social media.

Australian coach Matthew Mott said Haynes was “devastated” to miss the Test match at Metricon Stadium. She has played just five Tests since her international debut in 2009.

“Unfortunately the hamstring‘s no good,” Mott told reporters on Monday.

“It‘s a pretty tough one. I had dinner with her last night. She’s devastated obviously.

“Test matches don‘t come around too often. She’s a key member of our squad.”

Back in August, Australian teammate Megan Schutt also welcomed her first baby to the world.

Haynes and Schutt are both expected to return ahead of the Ashes, which get underway in late January.
