Australian cricketer Megan Schutt is a mother, revealing her wife gave birth to daughter Rylee via an emergency C-section last week.

Rylee Louise Schutt was born on Tuesday evening following a 28-week pregnancy, weighing in at 858 grams.

Schutt announced the birth on her social media channels on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by a series of pictures of the happy couple with their newborn.

“Our little miracle was born via emergency C-section … from 24 weeks we were told our complications meant she could need to arrive anytime onwards. So for almost 5 weeks we had our overnight bags packed, wondering how far we could get,” Schutt wrote on Twitter.

“Now she’s thriving on the outside a long road ahead but little miss is already smashing goals. Jess was/is one tough cookie, incredible to be a part of it all and I couldn’t be more proud of my wife already the amazing Mum I knew she would be.

“I am a lucky human to have two such beautiful girls in my life.”

Sydney Sixers pace bowler Lauren Cheatle responded: “Congratulations to you both, she’s beautiful!”

New Zealand captain Amy Satterthwaite replied: “Congratulations to you both! Such a special time. She’s gorgeous.”

Sports reporter Melinda Farrell commented: “Wow congratulations to you both! What a little cracker!”

Schutt revealed her wife was pregnant back in May, with the due date initially slated for early November.

Holyoake and Schutt married in March 2019, with the South Australian pace bowler calling it the “best day of my life”.

“Saying ‘partner’ is nice, but when having to explain that it’s a woman a lot of the time I think that often gets a reaction, which isn’t quite comfortable,” Schutt said at the time.

“Now we’re able to (just) say wife, flat out, and people know that’s the deal.”

Schutt has represented Australia in 65 one-day matches and 73 T20s since making her international debut in 2012.

The 28-year-old has taken 204 international wickets and claimed 74 scalps for the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL.

She was the leading wicket-taker during Australia’s triumphant 2020 T20 World Cup campaign, taking 4/18 in the final against India.

Schutt requested not to be considered for selection in Australia’s upcoming series against India, citing personal reasons.

“We’re fully supportive of the requests from Belinda (Vakarewa) and Megan to not be considered for selection and will continue to work with them to ensure they have the appropriate support,” national selector Shawn Flegler said in a statement.

“As leader of the bowling attack, Megan’s absence will provide the opportunity for someone else to play the type of role she has so well over a lengthy period.”

The Australian women’s side will next face India on Sunday, September 19, with the T20 match scheduled to take place at North Sydney Oval.
