The Herald Sun revealed in March that a Victorian club had made a six-year, $7 million offer to lure the dual All-Australian east.
It’s understood McGovern and the Eagles are close to reaching an agreement on money, but the length of the deal remains a sticking point.
At 26, McGovern is aware this will most likely be the biggest deal of his career and wants to secure his long-term future.
The intercept specialist is this week due to sit down with West Coast officials and Colin Young to decide on whether to park negotiations until season’s end.
McGovern’s teammate Andrew Gaff has repeatedly stated he will not discuss any new deal until the second half of the campaign, while Gold Coast’s Tom Lynch has taken a similar approach.
There is no movement on Adelaide’s out-of-contract forward Tom Lynch.
