We have another hilarious example this week after the remarkable finish to last Friday night’s Sydney v Essendon game made it onto ESPN’S SportsCenter, the network’s flagship program.
Host Scott Van Pelt threw to footage of the final 30 seconds as called by Bruce McAvaney: “Mark! Mark! Mark! Rohan!”
Van Pelt described how the Swan’s “uncontested kick” gave the Swans a 86-85 win, adding as footage played of the Sydney belted out the song in the rooms: “it sets up some dudes in some really short shorts singing songs”.
He then explains what his millions of viewers just witnessed — or tries to.
“There’s some kicking and some catching and the goals are worth six ... the official, the referee when the ball goes out of bounds they zing it back over their head ...”
