FREMANTLE V ST KILDA

Heroes: Michael Walters bounced back from a poor game last week with 120 points — his second ton this season — from 27 possessions and two goals. Luke Ryan is capable of a massive score every now and then, amassing 156 points with 32 disposals and 13 marks. Saints forward Jack Billings hit triple figures for the first time this season.

Villains: Dockers forward Jesse Hogan is yet to kick his first goal with his new club but wasn’t as prolific on the stats sheets compared to last week. A head clash ended Nat Fyfe’s day in the third quarter. Saint Seb Ross is yet to score in the 90s in three games, which isn’t numbers you want from an elite midfielder.

HAWTHORN V NORTH MELBOURNE

Heroes: Ben Cunnington and Ricky Henderson enjoyed a spike in Round 2 and backed up their efforts on Sunday. Contested bull Cunnington was in everything for North Melbourne, amassing 119 points after his 159 last weekend. Henderson is one of the ultimate POD picks in midfield and has scored 136 and 123 in the past two games. Shaun Higgins (125) and Ben Cunnington (119) were the two outstanding players for the Roos, while Todd Goldstein rebounded with 113.

Villains: Jack Gunston was limited to 63 points after starting the season with successive tons, while popular rookies Jack Scrimshaw (64) and James Cousins (63) just passed 60 in the final minutes. Bailey Scott (50) could come under pressure if Brad Scott swings the axe this week, while Ben Brown toiled for 32 points.

WESTERN BULLDOGS V GOLD COAST

Heroes: There won’t be a greater bargain this year than Tom Liberatore starting the season at $300,400. He’s about to rise by about $90,000 after a monster score of 150 in the Bulldogs’ loss to the Suns. Jack Macrae overcame a slow start to crank out another big hundred — 139 — while Marcus Bontempelli scored 124. Brayden Fiorini continued his hot start for the Suns with 117, a score matched by Jack Bowes. Rookie defender Sam Collins is proving worth his $188,900 price tag as a rookie defender, managing 86 and 79 in the past two weeks as a result of his intercept work.

Villains: Almost 25,000 coaches picked Josh Dunkley as a premium forward but he’s only posted 98, 76 and 80 in the first three rounds. It’s time to think about whether you trade him as he’s set to tumble below $500,000. Toby McLean only had 49 and is also set for a significant price tumble.

COLLINGWOOD V WEST COAST

Heroes: Dom Sheed (111) proved his mid-price starting point might be an anomaly with the Eagle taking his game to new levels this year. He notched three figures for the third time in as many weeks — and broke Pie hearts for the second time in as many years with a big goal in the final term. And the good news for coaches who spent up on Brodie Grundy (132) were rewarded, easing concerns he might not live up to his hefty price tag.

Villains: Jack Crisp (56), Scott Pendlebury (72) and Adam Treloar (86) didn’t have their usual impact, while Elliot Yeo’s subdued start to 2019 continued.

BRISBANE LIONS V PORT ADELAIDE

Heroes: After starting his Lions career with scores of 127 and 140, former Docker Lachie Neale showed he’s thriving as the main man with a whopping 177 points. Underrated teammates Mitch Robinson (131) and Josh Walker (128) had big nights, while skipper Dayne Zorko (105) showed he’s getting back to his best. For Port, veteran Travis Boak (136) continued his amazing resurgence while Connor Rozee (116) rewarded all coaches who were brave enough to start him on the ground.

Villains: A couple of Port rookies impressed again, but Willem Drew (36) had his first quiet night. And Tom Rockliff (36), so popular as a trade target this week, had his night ended prematurely courtesy of a heavy knock. Not Rocky’s fault.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY V RICHMOND

Heroes: Jeremy Cameron is back to his absolute best, booting seven goals in a best on ground performance for 163 SuperCoach points, while Lachie Whitfield had a day out across halfback and through the midfield with 152 points. Jacob Hopper (114) and Tim Taranto (112) also had plenty of it. For the Tigers, Kane Lambert was best with 140 points and debutant Sydney Stack well and truly put himself on the SuperCoach radar with 108 points.

Villains: 20,631 SuperCoaches did the unthinkable and traded Richmond superstar Dustin Martin and it proved the right move as he had a dirty day against GWS — scoring just 60 points — and is facing scrutiny from match review officer Michael Christian for an errant elbow 100m off the ball. Trent Cotchin was also very quiet, scoring just 57 points, while former Docker Tommy Sheridan was injured early in his GWS debut and scored just two points. Noah Balta isn’t performing as a cash cow, scoring only 31.

CARLTON V SYDNEY

Heroes: If you were one of the 22,474 SuperCoaches who traded out Isaac Heeney this week, look away now. The star Swan was back with a bang against the Blues, posting 137 points on the back of 26 disposals and four goals. No. 1 pick Sam Walsh posted his first big score of the season with 112, while Patrick Cripps was huge again with a game-high 157 points.

Villains: If you traded out Heeney then there’s no doubt he’s your villain from this game. Nic Newman owners will be disappointed with his 68 points against his old side, while Will Setterfield (37 points) and Michael Gibbons (17) are proving cash cow problems. Lance Franklin had a tough day against Liam Jones, scoring 61 points.

Late mail: Carlton sprung a late change with Matthew Lobbe replacing Andrew Phillips, who didn’t pull up from a corked quad. The Swans were unchanged.

MELBOURNE V ESSENDON

Heroes: Max Gawn stunk it up in Round 1 with 87 and that made his break even 198, which was always going to be tough to eclipse. It never really mattered though, he was always going to be set and forget and rewarded SuperCoaches with 126. If you were one of the exactly three SuperCoaches traded Dyson Heppell in this round, you’ll be very happy with his 125 — although he’ll still lose money with a break even of 140.

Villains: Adam Saad might have easily eclipsed his break even but, after popping out back-to-back tons to start the season, SuperCoaches would have wanted more than the 52 he managed. Christian Petracca may never be SuperCoach relevant and nearly 13,000 teams have been burned, the unfulfilled talent producing another mediocre score.

Late mail: Essendon made a late change ahead of its win over Melbourne and almost 20,000 SuperCoaches were rejoicing — that is if the player coming in wasn’t your loophole.

Hard-bodied midfielder David Myers succumbed to an illness and was replaced by SuperCoach cheapie Jordan Ridley.

The defender, who popped out 71 against GWS in Round 1 before being left out of the loss to St Kilda, costs $233,100, is in 19,909 teams and had a break even of -7, which he eclipsed easily with a respectable 65.

ADELAIDE V GEELONG

Heroes: Don Pyke! The decision to not tag Patrick Dangerfield was a great one for SuperCoaches everywhere, with the Superstar Cat finishing with 128 points. Tim Kelly had banked 107 points before coming off the ground in the last quarter with an ankle injury.

Villains: While the majority of his teammates were cashing in, it was a tough night at the office for Joel Selwood. His score of 46 is his lowest SuperCoach score since Round 14, 2017.
