North Melbourne coach Brad Scott acknowledges it will be difficult to lure Jordan De Goey from Collingwood

NORTH Melbourne know it will be “difficult” to lure a young star like Jordan De Goey but coach Brad Scott says the Kangaroos will continue to be aggressive as it aims to add top-end talent to the list.

NORTH Melbourne knows from experience how hard it is to pry prized players from rivals, so coach Brad Scott isn’t getting ahead of himself.

The Kangaroos, who courted Josh Kelly and Dustin Martin last year with no luck, are set to offer Collingwood star Jordan De Goey a five-year deal worth $1 million a season.

Scott was reluctant to give a “running commentary” on the De Goey hunt, but he said the Kangaroos hadn’t shied away from their desire to secure a top liner from a rival and he made no apologies for wanting to bolster his side.

“You can tell lies and you can deny everything, I think the easiest thing for us to do is just to go on with our business and not provide additional comment to what’s been thrown out there,” Scott said.

“ … I think we’ve made some pretty significant list changes over the few years so our supporters wouldn’t want to see that and then see inaction on the other side.

“ … but we know that it’s incredibly difficult to attract players from other clubs, possession really is nine-tenth of the law.

“Certainly our chairman has been quite public in saying we want to be aggressive in the market place and that will certainly continue, but we’re aware of the challenges it also presents.’

Scott said the club was being targeted in its approach and it would way up it’s options.

“There’s risk in everything, everything we do there’s opportunities and there’s risks,” Scott said.

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire told The Footy Show on Thursday night he expected more offers to come for his rising star.

“There is free agency, there is salary caps, there is loyalty, there is a love between teammates and friends and things like that all come into the mix,’ McGuire said.

“At the end of the day it is a professional game and that’s what people do. They ply their trade. We will meet the opportunities when they arise. We will put, obviously, a deal to Jordy in good faith and in good time.”

Scott confirmed his good mate Graeme ‘Gubby’ Allan had been hired as a part-time contractor to act as an adviser on recruiting.
