Hawthorn has confirmed the AFL’s Integrity Unit is investigating allegations of lewd social media behaviour from star forward Jonathon Patton.

Hawthorn has confirmed the AFL’s Integrity Unit is investigating allegations of lewd behaviour on social media by key forward Jonathon Patton.

The Herald Sun revealed on Saturday that the Hawks were looking into a woman’s allegation that Patton sent her inappropriate images in a private message on social media.

More women have since come forward with further allegations about the former Giant, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2011 AFL Draft.

Patton has been stood down by the Hawks from all club commitments, including not being allowed to train with teammates this week.

In a message to members on the club’s website, Hawthorn chief executive Justin Reeves said the investigation into the allegations about Patton’s behaviour could take some time.

“We take this matter very seriously and our Integrity Committee is working in conjunction with the AFL’s Integrity Unit to undertake the investigation into these complaints within the framework of the AFL’s Respect and Responsibility Policy,” he said.

Patton joined the Hawks on a three-year deal after the 2019 season but kicked just three goals in six games in 2020.

Reeves said the former Giant had been made “clear” the alleged behaviour “would not be tolerated” by the club.

“The complaints made are of behaviour that does not reflect the values of our club. We are a club that is proud of our family values and we strive to exemplify them across every element of our club,” he said.

“Hawthorn actively promotes and advocates for both respect and equality for all and we demand this standard from all involved with the club.

“As soon as the club was made aware of the matter we addressed it directly with Jonathon and made it clear that behaviour of this nature would not be tolerated by Hawthorn Football Club.

“Jonathon has been stood down from all club commitments while the investigation takes place.

“This is a difficult time for all involved and it is important our club ensures that Jonathon receives the support he requires during this period.”
