Hawthorn could use draft pick No. 23, received today from Fremantle in exchange for Bradley Hill, to help meet the Suns’ strict trade demands.
Gold Coast has been bullish about getting the best deal possible for O’Meara.
Young will “touch base” with Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright on Friday for an update on proceedings.
“I’ve got faith that a deal can be done,” Young said.
“I know that my last conversation Graham, a few days ago, he was going to try and fulfil (Gold Coast’s) needs, he was going to work very hard over the next few days doing it.
“We’re going to touch base (Friday) afternoon ... to see what the mixture was going to be, whether that’s picks and it changed tack that picks and players or players and picks, he was still confident that he could provide what they wanted.”
Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft on Monday said the Suns only wanted proven and experienced players for the talented midfielder.
“I couldn’t be more confident in (Wright and Suns list manager Scott Clayton) two of the more experienced recruiters going around so I actually just think it’s going to get done,” Young told SEN.
“I got great faith ... eventually that will hopefully get done, we’ve got seven days to go.”
Once the O’Meara deal is done the Suns will talk to Brisbane about a deal for Pearce Hanley, which appears a virtual certainty.
“We’re happy to look at it so I’m sure something will happen in that space,” Lions list manager Peter Schwab said on Trade Radio.
The future of captain Tom Rockliff is less clear. Schwab didn’t say he was up for trade but stopped short of declaring him a required player after a meeting with new coach Chris Fagan and list manager David Noble in Melbourne on Wednesday.
“By all accounts it went well. David and Chris basically spoke to Tommy about what they’d heard and what had been done in the last 12 months ... (Tom) was forthcoming about where the footy club is at,” Schwab said.
“I think it’s been a situation that Tom’s had to explore other options, but I have no doubt if Tom stays at the Brisbane Lions, that’s fine.
“Certain things will probably have to change because we’ve got a new coach and new regime but Tom’s a professional footballer, he’s in the last year of a contract with us and he prides himself on playing well, the proof’s in the pudding with Tom. Clubs are well aware of where Tom sits, we’ll leave it at that.”
Schwab said Collingwood defender Jack Frost would be at the Lions next year but there is no contract on the table for small forward Josh Green
After a swap of draft picks with GWS on Thursday morning, the Lions now have draft picks 3, 16 19, 21 in the November 25 national draft.
