THE GWS Giants have acquired Pick 2 in a trade of draft selections with Brisbane.
The deal sees the Giants receive Pick 2, along with Picks 31, 51 and 60 in exchange for a pair of first-round selections.
The Lions will slide down the order to Pick 3, in addition to receiving Pick 16 (initially Geelong’s pick), as part of the deal.
“This deal further strengthens our position ahead of next month’s draft,” Giants GM of footy Wayne Campbell said.
“By securing the second pick, we are well placed to secure some of the best young talent in the country.
“We’ll look to continue to strengthen our playing list and position in the draft during the remainder of the trade period.”
Under the academy points system, the trade secures the Giants 3528 points, with the Lions receiving 3301 points.
“We want to add talent to our list and build a team that can win our next premiership,” Brisbane talent manager Peter Schwab added.
“This trade means we can still secure the young player we want with our first pick, but we get the added benefit of then having Picks 16, 19 and 21 – all really early in a draft that has plenty of talent we’ve identified to suit our needs.”
