The 20-year-old midfielder was running back deep in the Blues’ forward line, but appeared to take his eyes off the ball at the last minute and bump Weitering as he competed for a mark with Suns defender Rory Thompson.
Weitering received a free kick for front-on contact, but Bowes was not reported by the umpires.
The Suns earned about $600,000 for selling the home game to the West Australian government.
They plan to take 24 players to Perth on Thursday and then send any potential replacements, including Bowes, early the following week to be there for the post-match reviews then to take part in the camp-style activities planned for the week.
Gold Coast has been granted full access to Perth Stadium, which means they will get more sessions on the deck in the lead-up to the matches than their local opponents.
They will stay in the standard AFL hotels over the weekends but have rented serviced apartments in Fremantle for the weeknights.
Brisbane also faces a fortnight on the road with matches against red-hot Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval and then premiers Richmond at the MCG.
The Lions will welcome back hard-nut Mitch Robinson from a one-week suspension.

Nick Robertson and Dayne Zorko were both fined $1500 for misconduct against veteran midfielder Jordan Lewis and young gun Clayton Oliver.
Lewis was also fined $1500 for misconduct against Rhys Mathieson.
