GOLD Coast have been emboldened by their hardline trading stance and will demand the Hawks add a player to draft pick 10 to secure Jaeger O’Meara.

The Hawks got pick 10 in a deal with St Kilda on Friday but the Suns also want an established midfielder and admit to making direct approaches to several Hawks players.

They have inquired about Liam Shiel and Isaac Smith but the player may have to come from another club in a three-way deal as the Hawks begin to close ranks around contracted players.

Sam Mitchell has already joined West Coast and Bradley Hill Fremantle and it is understood discussions have been held between the Lions and Hawks that would see Billy Hartung rejoin forces with Chris Fagan.

Four-time premiership player Jordan Lewis is also disgruntled and wants out. His management met with Melbourne again despite the Hawks declaring him off limits.

Suns list manager Scott Clayton met with Hawthorn again late on Friday.

The Suns have also sent a warning to Richmond that the price for Dion Prestia is pick No.6.

Football manager Marcus Ashcroft refuted reports Prestia may find his way back to Metricon Stadium.

“We’re quite confident we’ll get a deal done with Richmond sooner rather than later and that all centres around their pick six,” Ashcroft said.

If the Suns pull off both deals they would hold four picks in the top 10 of the draft – 4, 6, 8 and 10.

They intend to bring in Lion Pearce Hanley, Collingwood ruckman Jarrod Witts and whatever player they can secure in the O’Meara deal, which means they have draft picks to off-load.

Pick 10 may be used in a swap of picks and players to secure Hanley from Brisbane.

Pearce Hanley is expected to become a Sun during the AFL trade period.

The Suns would have settled for pick 14 and a player from Hawthorn and were prepared to on-trade that selection to the Lions.

They were disappointed when the Hawks used that selection to secure Tom Mitchell and made it clear once again they would send O’Meara to the draft if their demands were not met.

“As part of the initial discussions with Hawthorn it centred around their pick 14,” Ashcroft said.

“That’s subsequently been given to Sydney so we’ve had more discussions since that point.

“We’re looking at a player, we’re looking at picks they can offer up. We’ve been really open and transparent with expectations around players from their footy club.

“We’ve spoken to those players’ managers and respectfully we’ve given Hawthorn the chance to talk to those players so they can give their individual clubs perspective of it.”
