Paul Roos says Collingwood’s list management has been ‘really poor’ in recent years

PREMIERSHIP coach Paul Roos has slammed Collingwood’s recruitment and list management but backed coach Nathan Buckley.

Buckley has said his job hinges on the Magpies making finals this season but they sat 14th coming into Round 15, two games out of the eight.

In the past two years, Collingwood have brought in Will Hoskin-Elliott, Lynden Dunn, Daniel Wells, Chris Mayne, Jeremy Howe, Adam Treloar and James Aish in via trades or free agency.

Roos said the strategy was severely flawed.

“If you look at Collingwood’s list management over the past few years, it’s been appalling,” Roos told Triple M.

“They don’t have a list management plan.

“I’m not going to make a comment on how each player performs at AFL level ... but Jesse White goes in – where does he fit in?

“James Aish comes in to a midfield that already has Adam Treloar, (plus) Levi Greenwood coming in there.”

“I was positive about the (Daniel) Wells move, and (Will) Hoskin-Elliott because at least that gives them some speed.

“Everyone has hits and misses – you can look at Melbourne under me as a coach, you can look at Sydney, we had some hits and misses.

“But you must have a plan about where they are going to play, how you are going to build your team and as a result of that, how you are going to play on a consistent basis.”

“I think their list management has been really poor.”

Despite his beliefs, Roos didn’t believe Buckley should cop the blame.

“Bucks is under enormous pressure, but I’m not talking about Nathan Buckley,” he said.
