HERITIER Lumumba has accused Collingwood of minimising his racism concerns and the AFL of ignoring his plight.

Lumumba’s new SBS documentary accuses Collingwood player of using the nickname “chimp” to describe him for much of his career at the club.

He posted on his Facebook page today that his concerns had been swept under the carpet by Collingwood.

And he said the AFL and Collingwood should have penalised Eddie McGuire for his “ape” comments against Adam Goodes.

He is also frustrated by the silence from the AFL and AFLPA over his concerns.

He said today teammates like American ruckman Shae McNamara and Leon Davis had confirmed the racism that existed at the club.

The Pies have painted Lumumba’s concerns as isolated and said the nickname was not widely used.

“It is disappointing that so far Collingwood have chosen to minimise and dismiss my experiences,’’ he wrote.

“I’m further disappointed, but not entirely surprised, that the AFL and AFL Players Association have made no comment whatsoever on the issues I have raised.

“The nickname ‘Chimp’ was used during my time at Collingwood Football Club as just one of countless examples of institutionalised racism within the club.

“The systematic nature of racism is evident in the operation of the Recruitment and List Management departments of football clubs, the management of players by agents, the AFL’s failure to protect its highest profile Aboriginal player, Adam Goodes, from ongoing racism that effectively ended his career, the AFL and Collingwood’s failure to sanction or penalise Eddie McGuire following his comments comparing Adam Goodes to an ape.”

He said Davis had spoken to him recently, saying “your experiences of racism at Collingwood were a continuation of my own experiences at the club. I stand side by side with you”.
